IMA APRIL PUBLIC TOURS 2018 SPECIAL EXHIBITION TOURS Hello Spring Gallery Tour April 1 May 31, 2018 Stroll through the galleries to see how Spring is captured on canvas and discover great connections to the outside blooming landscape. Daily 30-Minute Public Tours: Tuesday- 2:00 pm and 12:30 pm No Public Tours on Sundays Bes-Ben: The Mad Hatter of Chicago April 20, 2018 January 6, 2019 Join docents on an exploration of the mind(s) behind the madness of Chicago s Mad Hatter. From styles to innovative materials and more than a touch of whimsy this tour will fascinate you with tales of Benjamin and Bessie Green-Field and the hat empire they created. Sundays, April 22 & 29: 3:00 pm SPECIAL TOURS A Closer Look Participants are invited to observe, question, and discuss a selected artwork in the galleries with a museum educator. Each hour-long session focuses on a single work of art and encourages interactive dialogue among the group members. ACCESSIBILITY TOURS Meet Me at IMA Tour: Early-Stage Alzheimer s Tour Meet Me at the IMA is a partnership program with the Alzheimer s Association. The program is designed for individuals with earlystage Alzheimer s or dementia and their care partner, family member or a friend. Our tours provide an opportunity to participate in a facilitated conversation of artworks from the IMA collection led by trained IMA docents. Art appreciation and social opportunities help enhance the relationship between persons with a dementia diagnosis and care partners, as well as providing an opportunity to develop new relationships with fellow participants. Engaging with art through conversation helps nurture self-esteem and elevates overall mood. The Alzheimer s Association is passionate about building relationships with other partners in the arts community and engaging new families who are facing early-stage Alzheimer s and dementia. Meet Me at the IMA is sponsored by the Klapper Family Foundation through the Alzheimer s Association. April 23, 2018: 2:00 pm (4 th Tuesday of each month) Registration required through the Alzheimer s Association, 1-800-272-3900 LILLY HOUSE AND GARDEN TOURS Fridays: 2:00 pm (starting the month of April) Saturdays and Sundays: 2:00 pm Lilly House Tour Take a docent-guided tour of the American Country Place Era home of the late Indianapolis businessman, philanthropist, and collector J.K. Lilly, Jr. The house has eight historic furnished interiors reflecting the early 1930s, and is the centerpiece of Oldfields, a 26-acre National Historic Landmark estate with landscape and gardens designed by Olmsted Brothers. Evening Garden Tour with IMA s Director of Horticulture: Gardens of IMA Join the Director of Horticulture for an in-depth tour through the Gardens. The tour will include what is currently in bloom, what plants do well for us in the Midwest, and answer any questions that guest have about their own gardens. Tours will meet at the Garden entrance. Fashion: Women in Art through Time The European influence on subject matter and style of American art was significant. Let s take a look at women s fashion throughout the history of European and American art. The westward migration, industrialization and the growth of cities, and technological advances also affected the way women were depicted in art. American Impressionism Impressionism didn t happen only in France. Explore the art of the American Impressionists. Defining Decorative Arts Learn about aesthetic objects such as furniture, glass, ceramics, metalwork and jewelry that are often used as interior decoration.
