Angel Sampler Here are a host of angels to tempt your brush. Angels are usually thought of as warm, loving and caring, so whatever you choose to paint them on will make a gift sure to please. The tin fruit dish was a special purchase from the Landis Valley Museum in Lititz, PA. The patterns are small and will adapt easily to other pieces. Preparation 1. Base with a mix of Titanium White + Indian Red Oxide + Paynes Grey + Gold Oxide (1:1:1:touch). Glaze is Burnt Umber and Diox Purple. FINish 2-3 coats of Water Based Polyurethane Varnish - Satin. Painting instuctions 1. I like to glaze the corners and edges of the piece a little before I begin painting, then one time during the painting and maybe a little at the end of the painting if I want more contrasts. Acrylic glazing is so easy and clean and it is very quick and simple to do. It is a very pleasant break or change from painting techniques. reds, yellows, pinks or oranges (here I used Napthol Crimson). d. Leaves Base Brilliant Green toned with some Raw Sienna or Teal Green and Yellow Oxide (a medium value green). e. Note: You may thin your paint with water or brush mix with Gel Retarder for longer working time as you base the areas. 3. Dry well. Retard painting area (on dimensional pieces work one surface or small area at a time). All shading is done with a dark colored glaze. This may be a very dark value of your background color which will coordinate and tone all your colors to the background. Dry well. 4. Highlights are begun with lighter values of your object s color, working finally to very pale tints (add whites to your colors). 5. Lovely additional touches can be accent colors added in the areas that wouldnormally be thought of as reflected light. While this is usually a cooler color than the highlight areas, we can think more decoratively and use/carry other colors of our design as we wish. Palette Burgundy Napthol Crimson Rose Pink Vermillion Raw Sienna Yellow Oxide Storm Blue Sapphire Aqua Teal Green Brilliant Green Smoked Pearl Warm White Burnt Umber Carbon Black Diox Purple Trans Magenta optional Amethyst optional Flesh Mix Warm White and a touch of Rose Pink and Raw Sienna; or Warm White and Vermillion. 2. Casually base areas with shape following strokes and desired color or use the suggestions as follows: a. Flesh areas Flesh Mix b. Dress and hats Medium values of your desired colors c. Tulips Base with your 6. It is always fun to decorate with strokes, lace, ribbons and flowers. Please use the color photos for suggestions but feel free to change as you desire.
