Guest Speaker This Week : Hon. Karen Andrews, Federal member for McPherson. Karen spoke very warmly about the RC Burleigh Heads and its successes over the years. Colleen and Teresa BTD Karen was at our Club meeting this morning to present us with a cheque for a $5000 Grant for our Mobility Scooter project. Karen particularly noted personally meeting Lisa from Fight For Youth at a RCBH meeting and working through her office with the RCBH to support that project. Hence our Club also contributed indirectly to Fight for Youth achieving a 420,000 Grant for a van. She explained how a $40,000 van was provided to this needy project by accessing Stronger Communities funding and working through RCBH. A most successful outcome for all. Nick and Jac BTD In a similar manner a new flagpole had recently been provided for our wonderful hosts, the Burleigh Heads Surf Club. Karen offered to provide an Australian flag for our YEP student Luca at an appropriate time prior to his returning home in June and to provide a used, very large flag from the flagpole roof of Parliament House for use by the club at large functions. We accepted both kind offers. Lovely Ladies BTD Finally, President Richard was delighted to accept a cheque from Stronger Communities to the value of $5000 in support of the Scooter project. Karen spoke very warmly about the suitability of this project to successfully meet a clear need in the community. Other News: Last meeting 14 th December First Meeting next year is 11 th January.
