safety We are looking forward to launching our first Habitat for Humanity Women Build in Will County with all of you. In an effort to be sure you have a great experience and assure you are safe, we want to address a few safety matters. For many of you, this is your first experience on a construction site, because of this, what we have outlined is to ensure your safety. First and foremost, please remember safety is always our primary concern. The following rules are in place to keep our work environment free of injury. We will go over specifics the morning of, but here are a few things you will need to be aware of prior to coming on the construction site: 1. The ground will be uneven and some of you will be working on ladders. Absolutely no open toe shoes or soft-soled shoes. High top lace-up work boots are recommended. 2. All hair longer than shoulder length must be pulled back and tied in a bun so it does hot hang past your shoulder. Please remember you will be wearing a hardhat, make sure your hard hat fits with your hair up. 3. No hanging strings from sweatshirts, or excessively baggy clothes. 4. Please no jewelry, and no rings. Rings get hooked on things. If you have to wear a necklace, please make sure it is tucked inside your top. 5. You may be climbing ladders and kneeling, so please wear loose sturdy pants, no yoga pants. 6. Dress in layers. As you know the temperature can change throughout the day. 7. We will be supplying hard hats, nail aprons, hammers, safety glasses (mandatory), ear plugs (optional). Your activity and location will determine if you are required to wear a hard hat.

safety, continued Do you want the POWER? As in power tools? Please understand with as many people as we are going to have on this job site we are unable to provide the necessary operating and safety training as we do on a normal build day. For safety reasons we will not be allowing volunteers to use any power tools with the exception of a cordless drill in some situations. If you would like to learn how to use different power tools, please feel free to come back and volunteer with us on another regular build day. We will partner you with one of our Senior Crew who can teach you the proper operating and safety methods when using power tools. We reserve the right to implement additional safety policies and procedures as necessary. Safety training will be provided on site, but please watch this safety video prior to build day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kyzcucf_ks
