1 2 Thank You for purchasing from Little Cottage Co. To begin assembly, lay the 2x4 s together as shown in the diagram and fasten. Then place the 4x4 pressure treated runners underneath this frame. Fasten only on the ends. 3 4 Measure from side to side either way until the measurements are the same. You will then know the floor is square. After you have squared the floor, fasten the rest of the 2x4 s to the 4x4 s. 5 6 Now fasten the plywood. The floor is finished then and you are ready to begin the house assembly. 7 8 Begin by organizing the sections so that you see where they belong. Install section A, keep even with the edge of the floor and push it in against the floor from the outside. 9 10 Now fasten. Install section B header block. Be sure to keep even on the top. 11 12 And fasten. Then install section C, again make sure it is even on the top. Construction Manual 2007-2008 Little Cottage Co. 13 14 When installing panel C, make sure the door measures 20 from edge to edge then fasten. It should also be even on the side by the floor. 15 16 Install the back wall in the same fashion, make sure the top is even. Install panel F, keep even on the top. 17 18 Install panel G, again keeping the top even. Now fasten panels H and I to each other. Make sure they are even on the bottom. 19 20 Fasten the top together. Push in the top of the trim together and fasten. 21 22 Install these on top of panels F & G. Have someone push the trim in against the siding. This will take the bow out of the top piece. 23 24 Measure in from the sides and center this. It should measure 5 1/2 as shown. Once it is centered fasten. 25 26 Install section J. Again keep even on the top and push it in against the floor. 27 28 Now install section K. The door opening should measure 54. This is very important. otherwise the door will not fit correctly. You may have to move the panels and possibly the back and front walls to get this measurement. Then fasten panels L and M together. Be sure to keep even as shown. Install these on top of panels J and K. 29 30 Keep the sides of the door even as shown. Use a 54 brace on top. Be sure to use plenty of screws. 31 32 Use the 54 brace on the sides again and use plenty of screws. Install the shorter 2x6 with trim. Match the sets with X s and O s on the bottom. 33 34 Then install the other side. Now install the center piece of 2x6 with trim. 35 36 Once the last piece is in place fasten the blocks underneath to the other piece. This will make the wall and the 2x6 s sturdy. Repeat the steps on the other side. 2x6 s should be even on the inside with 2x4 s. Construction Manual 2007-2008 Little Cottage Co. Page 6
37 38 Put the truss angles together. Note: you will have to match the correct angles that match the truss scabs. Now fasten the truss scabs, keep the top even. Install one scab on either side of the truss. Make sure the scab does not stick out past the truss. 39 40 Install the trusses in the premarked spots. You may have to pull them to the correct position. This is from not fastening the scabs correctly, or from a bowing wall or other factors. Note: where to place the edge of the trusses, place on the edge of the 2x6 and not on the gingerbread. Measure from the bottom of the truss and install the dormer frame. Measurement is 16 to the bottom of the frame, and then 30 more to the next frame. 41 42 Start fastening the sheeting following the diagram sheet showing the sizes and placement. This shows what the edge of this sheet will look like on the end wall. Note: the gap between the end wall truss and the sheeting. Construction Manual 2007-2008 Little Cottage Co. Page 7
43 44 Continue fastening sheeting on the back side. Install the top piece of sheeting. 45 46 This shows what the front will look like before sheeting. Apply the precut sheeting according to the diagram. 47 48 install the drip edge around the edge. Assemble the dormer as shown. Construction Manual 2007-2008 Little Cottage Co. Page 8
49 50 Fasten them together. fasten only toward the top to allow flashing to be inserted at a later time. Install the dormer truss as shown. 51 52 Then install the dormer sheeting. Install the 2x4 onto the dormer as shown. this holds the dormer in the correct position until it is fastened. 53 54 Keeping the dormer even on all sides of truss, and fasten. 55 56 Once the dormer is installed, shingle as shown. These are the flashing pieces for the dormer. 57 58 Now pry the siding out as shown and install flashing. Then slide the flashing up the side. 59 60 Continue to install more shingles. Continue to shingle all the way to the top as shown. Construction Manual 2007-2008 Little Cottage Co. Page 10
61 62 Do the other side of the dormer in the same fashion. Shingle up this side as shown. 63 64 Next install the drip edge on the dormer. Then apply the shingles to the dormer. 65 66 Snap a chalk line and cut the shingle as shown below with a hook knife. install more shingles around the dormer as shown. 67 68 Start with the ridge cap in the dormer. Once you get to the back of the dormer follow the next steps. 69 70 Lift up the shingles and slide the ridge cap into place. This shows an alternative picture of sliding the ridge cap into place. Fasten the shingles. 71 72 Then shingle the back side and finish off with a ridge cap on the main peak. 73 74 Install 2 small pieces of siding beneath the door. Keep even with the floor. Install the door top trim piece. 75 76 Then install the trim piece on top of this. Then place the spacer bar as shown and install the door using this for a guide. The left side has already been hung. 77 78 Install a piece of trim as shown on the top of the door frame. 79 80 Close the door and mark around the door latches top and bottom. Use 5/16 drill bit to drill holes for the door latches to slide into. 81 82 Install a small piece of siding beneath the door. Keep even with the floor. Place the spacer bar by the edge to use as a guide for door installation. 83 84 Place the door on the spacer bar. Fasten using only one screw per hinge. This way if you need to make adjustments you will not have to undo all the screws. Next install the top door piece. Try to center the door between the top trim piece and the bottom door. If both doors work well, install the rest of the screws and remove the spacer bar. Construction Manual 2007-2008 Little Cottage Co. Page 14
85 86 Now install the 3 door pulls and the turner knob. Install the shutters, window top trim, and flowerboxes and install the heart window using small OSB strips to secure in place. install the dormer trim using small white nails.
