A HERITAGE IN FRAGRANCE A HERITAGE IN CANDLE MAKING I made scented candles the theme of a college marketing course in 2009. The course required me to create and promote a product and the choice was natural for me: candles. My very first one was made in my basement in 2008 using an antique Queen Anne stove. Years prior, my father, Michael Kittredge II, would create a candle with his childhood crayons on that same stove for my grandmother s Christmas gift. Within a year, that antique stove would become the heart of a tiny but fast-growing company he created called Yankee Candle. Michael Kittredge III Although I was young when he sold Yankee Candle in 1998, I very much recall growing up and learning in his world of wax and wicks. I felt such a great sense of heritage and fulfillment after working on my class project and approached my dad about expanding the idea into a business. Not long afterward, the Kringle Candle Company was born, and in October 2010, Kringle s first retail store opened in Bernardston, Massachusetts showcasing our handcrafted candle products. Now our cozy country campus also includes a three-level post and beam Country Barn offering unique gifts and holiday décor, a Country Cottage with sweet treats, and The Farm Table Restaurant, a restored farmhouse built circa 1800 serving internationally nuanced American cuisine. I m very proud of our ultra-fragrant candle line. With our sleeves rolled up and following my dad s inspiration, Kringle Candle s focus and mission is to create exceptional quality products coupled with world-class customer service. As a boy, I remember the chocolate bars and wrapping paper, the tapping on doors; asking family members (and their friends) to help me raise money for my class field trips. Those memories of door-to-door fundraising stuck with me, and shortly after our 2010 opening, we developed and implemented a world-class fundraising program. I m excited that Kringle Candle has become a fundamental part of the fundraising efforts for so many wonderful and worthwhile projects, programs, events and causes.
