It's just 1x4 boards, stacked to create a tree shelf. You could fill with decor, as Jaime has done, or with Christmas cards, or candles, or family photos. How about using as and advent calendar shelf, and hanging stockings off the hooks? So many ways! But here's the catch - Christmas is right around the corner. So you've gotta make this project now to enjoy it this year! So here's what to do 1. degrees off square Scrap 1/2" plywood for filling in second shelf approzimately 6" x 15" General Instructions: Please read through the entire plan and all comments before beginning this project. It is also advisable to review the Getting Started Section. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not take stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck! Page 13 of 22
[28] Use a jigsaw to cut out the side support pieces in a decorative shape. Attach to back piece. You can use 1-1/4" nails and glue or screws to attach. Page 14 of 22
[29] Use screws to attach bottom shelf to supports and back. Page 15 of 22
[30] Use screws to attach a pair of sides to the bottom shelf. Page 16 of 22
[31] Continue working upward, attaching the shelves and sides, with 1-1/4" trim screws and glue. Page 17 of 22
[32] Finally attach the top to the tree, using screws and glue. Page 18 of 22
[33] Trace out the second to top shelf on to 1/2" thick plywood. Cut out with jigsaw. Glue and nail in place. Page 19 of 22
[34] Attach project to wall, preferably through bottom and back plywood pieces. Finishing InstructionsPreparation Instructions: Fill all holes with wood filler and let dry. Apply additional coats of wood filler as needed. When wood filler is completely dry, sand the project in the direction of the wood grain with 120 grit sandpaper. Vacuum sanded project to remove sanding residue. Remove all sanding residue on work surfaces as well. Wipe project clean with damp cloth. It is always recommended Page 20 of 22
to apply a test coat on a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color evenness and adhesion.
