GETTING STARTED Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Vignette Modern Roman Shades. With proper installation and care, your new shades will provide years of beauty and performance. Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet before beginning the installation. Mounting Types And Window Terminology If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the installation process follows very easily. To prepare for this important fi rst step, review the basic window terminology illustrated with an angle shade. Collectively, the sills and jambs are called the window casement. Molding Jamb Jamb Inside mount shade fits within window opening. Bottom Sill Installation Components Needed Check the packaging to be sure you have all the components needed to install your shade. Keep the packaging until the shades perform to your satisfaction. Keep the protective plastic cover on the fabric covered headrail in place until the shade is installed. Angle Shade Headrail Ordered Width Brackets Required 12" - 40" 2 40 1 /8" - 72" 3 Required Components Arch Keyhole Fabric Clips/ Angle Installation Brackets. There are two keyhole fabric clips required for arch shades. The number of installation brackets required for an angle shade varies with shade's ordered width, as shown in the table. Arch Keyhole Fabric Clip Angle Installation Bracket Optional Components Shims (Plastic Washers). If necessary, use one or more shims together to level the installation brackets. Tools And Fasteners Needed Flat blade and Phillips screwdriver Level Measuring tape and pencil Power drill and drill bits 1 4 " driver 1

GETTING STARTED In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specifi c mounting surface(s). #6 Flat Head Screws (Provided). One screw per arch keyhole fabric clip, two screws per angle installation bracket. Wall Anchors (Not Provided). If mounting into drywall, you will need wall anchors to ensure a secure installation. #6 x 1½" Flat Head Screw (Provided) Wall Anchor (Not Provided) Product View Arch Keyhole Fabric Clips Angle Installation Bracket Slots Plastic Support 2

INSTALLATION Arch Shade Installation Inside Mount Only Attach The Keyhole Fabric Clips Clear a fl at, clean workspace. Place the shade with the front side of the fabric facing up. CAUTION: Handle the fabric carefully throughout the installation process. Top View Keyhole Fabric Clip Slot Plastic Support Insert and center both keyhole fabric clips into the slots in the plastic support on the back top loop. Measure And Mark The Location For The Keyhole Fabric Clips Locate and mark the top center of the window casement. One method is to use a plumb line, as shown. Measure the bottom sill and divide in two to locate center and mark the location. Move the plumb line until the bob aligns with the center mark on the sill, then mark the location on the top sill. Then, Line Up With Center First, Measure To Locate Center IMPORTANT: Locating the exact center is very important for the shade to hang level and evenly in the window. Hold the arch shade up to the window and center the fabricated mark on the back of the shade to the previously made mark at the center of the top sill. Mark the location for the mounting screws. The minimum mounting depth for screw placement is 3 /8". Mounting depth for a fully recessed shade is up to 2 7 /8" depending upon fabric type. Mounting Screw Location Mark Mounting Screw Locations 3 /8" 3 /8" Mark Center Arch Shade Front Of Casement 1" Fabric Minimum* Center Mark Support Clip Back Of Casement (Window) *Mounting depth for a fully recessed shade is up to 2 7 /8 depending upon fabric type. 3

INSTALLATION Install the screws at the previously made marks. Drill the screw holes using a 3 32" drill bit. Install the screws at an angle perpendicular to the mounting surface. Leave the screw head partially unscrewed, approximately 5 /16". Install The Arch Shade Hold the shade up to the window casement with the keyhole on the fabric support clips to the back. Slide the keyhole of each fabric support clip over the adjacent screw head. Slide the shade back until secure. Mounting Screw Keyhole Adjust The Arch Shade The shade should be level and hang straight for the best appearance. To Level Or Straighten Slide the fabric clips in the slots. Be careful not to detach the shade from the clips Adjust the mounting screw to raise or lower the corresponding side of the shade. Slots Removing The Arch Shade Slide the shade forward at the keyhole fabric clips. Release the mounting screw from the keyhole in the fabric clip and remove the shade. 4

INSTALLATION Angle Shade Installation Inside Mount Measure And Mark The Installation Bracket Location Clear a fl at, clean workspace. Place the shade with the front side of the fabric facing up. CAUTION: Handle the fabric carefully throughout the installation process. Measure 3" in from each jamb for bracket location. 3" 3" If more than two installation brackets came with your order, space additional bracket(s) evenly between the two end brackets and mark their location. Adjust the bracket placement to accommodate obstructions to the bottom rail, such as window cranks or handles. Mount The Installation Bracket Mark the location of the screw holes. The depth required for a minimum mounting is 1 5 8". To fully recess the shade (fl ush mount) in the window, up to 2 7 8" is required, depending upon fabric type. Typically, fully recessed inside mounting is best for energy effi ciency. Use a level to check that the brackets are aligned. Shim the brackets if necessary. Drill the screw holes using a 3 32" drill bit. 3" Fully Recessed Depth = 2 7 /8" IMPORTANT: If you are fastening the installation brackets to drywall, be sure to use wall anchors and follow the instructions provided with the anchors. (Anchors not provided.) Fasten the installation brackets to the mounting surface. Use the hex head screws provided. 5

INSTALLATION Install The Angle Shade Position the shade so that the front (colored fabric) faces you. Slip the headrail into the installation brackets so the front of the bracket slides under the front groove on the top of the headrail. Gently roll the back of the headrail up and push back to snap into place. Tighten tab screw on each bracket until snug. Do not overtighten. Removing The Angle Shade Unscrew the tab screw on each bracket to release the headrail. Headrail Tab Screw Arch, Extended Arch Support Clips Use the support clips on the edges of the arch for additional support. Use as many support clips as needed. Support Clip Slider Mark the Location 1. The support clip needs to be located 1 /2-2 /3 of the distance between the plastic support and the bottom of the arched portion of the shade, as illustrated. Plastic Support 1 /2 2 /3 Bottom Of Arch 6

INSTALLATION 2. Mark this location on the window casement. ➋ Mark Location Mount The Support Clip 3. Mount the support clip on the mark using one screw. Adjust the position so the fl at front of the support clip (behind the slider portion) aligns with the front fabric panel. ➌ Mount Clip 4. Raise the slider on the end of the support clip and either place both fabric panels or just the back fabric into the opening on the end of the clip. Line Up Fabric With Flat Front Slider ➍ Insert Both Fabric Panels Insert Back Fabric Only Fabric 5. While still holding the fabric in position, lower the slider to lock the fabric in place. ➎ Lower The Slide To Lock Into Place 7

INSTALLATION Quarter Circle Shadings Lower the mounting screws until the bottom rail rests on the window sill. Another option is to add something to act as a spacer (not provided) between the bottom rail and the window sill to support the bottom rail. If there is no window sill, add the spacer to the vertical side. Add Spacer To Sill (Spacer Not Provided) If No Sill, Add Spacer To Side (Spacer Not Provided) 8

INSTALLATION Troubleshooting Problem The angle shade will not fi t into the installation brackets. The arch shade will not fi t into the mounting screws. The shade is puckering or sagging. The bottom rail does not appear straight. Solution Loosen the tab screw on the mounting brackets. Check that the mounting brackets are aligned. Shim the brackets, if necessary. Check that the headrail is completely inserted into the mounting brackets. See Install The Angle Shade on page 6. Verify that the mounting screw placement is accurate. Adjust if necessary. See Install The Arch Shade on page 4. Slide the fabric clips in the plastic support. See Adjust The Arch Shade on page 4. Install or adjust the support clips. See Arch, Extended Arch Support Clips on page 6. Verify that the mounting screw placement or installation bracket is accurate. See Arch Shade Installation on page 3, or Angle Shade Installation on page 5. For arch shades, slide the fabric clips in the slots cut into the plastic support. See Adjust The Arch Shade on page 4. If the window casement is uneven, adjust the mounting screw height or shim the installation bracket to compensate. 9

CARE Problem The shade is not centered in the window. Solution For arch shades, verify the center of the window and check that the mounting screws were accurately mounted. Adjust the mounting screw placement or height to compensate. See Arch Shade Installation on page 4. For angle shades, loosen the tab screw on the installation brackets slightly and adjust the headrail by sliding it in the installation brackets. See Install The Angle Shade on page 6. 10

Cleaning Procedures Hunter Douglas Vignette Modern Roman Shades are made of an anti-static, dust resistant fabric which repels dirt and dust. For most fabrics, the following options are available if your shade needs cleaning. A Note On Textiles CARE As with all textiles, the Vignette fabrics are subject to some inherent variations in the fabric weave. Subtle dye-lot variations, puckering, or wrinkling fall within textile industry standards and should be considered as normal, acceptable quality. Additionally, there will be slight differences in pattern alignment from the fabric on the headrail to the fabric of the shade, which do not detract from the product s appeal. The Grasslands Collection of fabrics is reminiscent of natural woods, reeds and grasses. Variations in color pattern irregularities are unique characteristics that contribute to the classic beauty of the shade. Dusting Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning needed in most circumstances. Vacuuming Use a hand-held vacuum with low suction for dust removal. Forced Air Blow dirt and debris from within the fabric folds using clean, compressed air or a hair dryer set on a cool setting. Spot-Cleaning Prepare a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Dampen a clean cloth in the solution and wring it out. Place a dry, clean cloth behind the spot between the face fabric and the back fabric. Dab the spot with the dampened cloth until it is gone. Do not rub the fabric. Rubbing alcohol or non-oil-based baby wipes may be used on more stubborn stains. 11

CARE Injection/Extraction Shades can be cleaned by a professional using the injection/extraction method of deep cleaning. Specify the dry cleaning method only. Pretreat heavy stains. CAUTION: Do not use injection/extraction procedures on the fabric-covered headrail or the top plastic channel. Ultrasonic Cleaning Shades can be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional. Specify that a mild detergent solution be used. Never immerse the headrail or the top plastic channel in the solution. CAUTION: Do not ultrasonically clean the fabric-covered headrail or the plastic channel at the top of the shade. Steaming Steam the face fabric from the bottom to the top, making sure to get steam under each fabric fold. Be careful not to saturate the fabric with steam. 12
