INTRODUCTION THANK YOU for purchasing a Hunter Douglas Remembrance Shade. Your new shade has been custom built for you from the highest quality materials. Please review the instructions to acquaint yourself with all of the procedures. If you need any assistance with operation or adjustments, call the Hunter Douglas Customer Information Center toll free at: 1-888-501-8364 GETTING STARTED Remove the materials from the package. Keep the packaging until the shade meets your satisfaction. Save these instructions for care and cleaning, shade removal, and reinstallation procedures. Check the Product View to make sure you have all of the necessary parts. Contents of the hardware package may vary depending upon how the shade was ordered and how the shade will be mounted. TOOLS AND FASTENERS NEEDED Flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers Level Measuring tape Pencil Power drill, 1 /4" driver, and drill bits In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surfaces: Mounting Surface Wood Drywall, Plaster Metal Fastener No. 6 Hex Head Screws (Provided) Wall Anchors, Expansion Bolts (Not Provided) Sheet Metal Screws (Not Provided) 5

INSTALL THE MOUNTING BRACKETS The mounting brackets are supplied in pairs. One bracket is used with the beaded cord loop (clutch-side) and the second bracket is used with the rotator side. The brackets can be used for inside, outside, or ceiling mounts. The parts labeled Tab, T-hook, and Center Opening hold the shade in place. The mounting brackets are always mounted so that the inner surfaces face each other, as shown. The brackets must be mounted so the shade is level when installed. Clutch-Side Mounting Brackets Place the tab of the clutch-side mounting bracket into the slotted center hole of the clutch on the shade. Outside Mount Ceiling/Inside - If the shade is inside or outside mounted, Mount the bracket should be mounted so that the tab is pointing away from the window. - If the shade is ceiling mounted, the bracket should be mounted so that the tab is pointing down. Hold the shade in the desired position at the window and mark the bracket location on the mounting surface. Remove the shade from the window. If necessary, drill pilot holes for the screws. Use two screws (and anchors, if needed) to attach the rotator-side mounting bracket to the mounting surface. Rotator-Side Mounting Bracket Open the T-hook on the rotator-side mounting bracket. Fit the pin on the rotator end of the shade into the rotator-side mounting bracket's center opening. - If the shade is inside or outside mounted, the pin fits into the upper notch on the bracket. - If the shade is ceiling mounted, the pin fits into the center opening of the bracket. Install the beaded cord loop end of the shade onto the clutch-side mounting bracket, while supporting the rotator end of the shade. Place the rotator-side mounting bracket into the rotator pin. Position the shade against the mounting surface. Use a carpenter s level to make sure the shade is level. NOTE: If mounting the brackets to the ceiling, you may need to shim one of them to level the shade. Mark the rotator-side mounting bracket location on the mounting surface. Remove the shade from the window. If necessary, drill the pilot holes for the screws. Use two screws (and anchors, if needed) to attach the rotator-side mounting bracket to the mounting surface. INSTALL THE SHADE IMPORTANT: Do not remove the paper banding used to prevent shade from unrolling prematurely until after the shade is installed. Hold the shade with the bottom of the clutch facing the floor, and the beaded cord loop hanging straight down. Install the clutch end of the shade onto the tab on the clutchside mounting bracket. Swing the shade's rotator end into place so the rotator pin engages the rotator-side mounting bracket. Close the T-hook. Remove the paper banding on the shade. Clutch Clutch Bottom SECURE THE CORD TENSIONER It is imperative that the cord tensioner be properly secured to the wall or window frame to reduce children s access to the beaded cord loops. Young children can strangle in beaded cord loops. They can also wrap beaded cord loops around their necks and strangle. Furthermore, the shade will not operate properly unless the cord tensioner is secured. A cord tensioner installation kit has been included with your shade. Follow the instructions in the kit to correctly secure the cord tensioner. IMPORTANT: See the Child Safety Section on page 10. 7

ATTACH THE HOLD-DOWN BRACKETS (OPTIONAL) NOTE: Hold-down brackets may be used with outside mount shades only. With the shade fully lowered, insert the pin on the hold-down bracket into the hole on the bottom rail end cap. Mark the mounting hole locations on the mounting surface. Center the hold-down brackets over the mounting hole locations and check their alignment. Attach using two screws. NOTE: If hold-down brackets are requested after the initial order, replacement end caps will accompany the brackets. To Lower The Shade OPERATE THE SHADE Hold one side of the beaded cord loop and pull down. Pull until the shade is at the desired height. To Raise The Shade Hold the other side of the beaded cord loop and pull down. Pull until the shade is at the desired height. ADJUST THE SHADE Using the beaded cord loop, lower the window shade to the full drop. Raise the shade slowly and observe how the fabric winds on the roll. NOTE: Level mounting is essential for proper operation. - If the fabric winds unevenly and begins to telescope to one side, check to insure that the shade is level. If the shade is not level -, remove it from the mounting brackets and shim or reinstall the brackets, as necessary. 8

IMPORTANT: If the shade was unrolled before being installed, it may not raise and lower to the right points. To correct this: Remove the shade from the mounting brackets. Roll up the shade until the bottom rod is even with the bottom of the clutch. Re-install the shade. REMOVE THE SHADE Open the T-hook on the rotator-side mounting bracket. Slide the rotator end of the shade up and away from the bracket. Gently pull the opposite end of the shade from the clutch tab on the clutch-side mounting bracket. Inside/Outside Mount T-hook T-hook Ceiling Mount CARE AND CLEANING Normal cleaning of Hunter Douglas Roller shades requires only light dusting with a feather duster, soft cloth, or low suction vacuum attachment. Do not clean with harsh detergents. For more comprehensive cleaning instructions, call the Hunter Douglas Customer Information Center toll free at: 1-888-501-8364 9

CHILD SAFETY WARNING For more safety information call 1-888-501-8364 in the U.S. or 1-866-662-0666 in Canada. Young children can STRANGLE in beaded cord loops. They can also wrap beaded cord loops around their necks and STRANGLE. Always keep beaded cord loops out of the reach of children. Move cribs, playpens and other furniture away from beaded cord loops. Children can climb furniture to get to the beaded cord loops. Attach the cord tensioner on the beaded cord loop to the wall or window casement. This can prevent children from pulling beaded cord loops around their necks. Use the provided cord tensioner installation kit, with instructions, for attaching the cord tensioner. For the shade to operate properly, the cord tensioner must be correctly mounted and secured. Only the supplied cord tensioners and hardware should be used. Replacement parts can be obtained by contacting Hunter Douglas at: 1-888-501-8364 TROUBLESHOOTING Problem The shade raises or lowers unevenly. The shade will not raise. Solution Check that the mounting brackets are level and aligned. If the hold-down brackets have been used, make sure that they have been released. 10
