I used; one 1/4 dowel, three 3/4 knobs) MISC. SUPPLIES: Clear Honeycomb Wishes Stamp #70945 Jumbo Clear Handle #70934 DecoArt Multi Purpose Sealer #87392 DecoArt Dura Clear Matte Varnish #87395 1 check stencils Small piece of cosmetic sponge Pro Art Tracing Paper #83176 Grey Graphite Paper 18 x 36 #70141 Small Sanding Pad Fine/Medium #70794 Soft Grip Embossing & Stylus set of 3 #70125 Sawtooth hanger (set includes 6) #82218 Drill with 1/4 bit (if using different dowel and knobs) E-6000 glue BRUSHES: Papillon Brushes by the Artist s Club Glaze Wash size 3 /4 #20102 Glaze Wash size 1 #20103 Shader size 6 #20127 Shader size 8 #20129 Shader size 10 #20130 Angular Shader size 1 /4 #20109 Angular Shader size 1 /2 #20111 Angular Shader size 3 /4 #20113 Angular Shader size 1 #20114 Round size 1 #20157 Round size 4 #20161 Script Liner size 10/0 #20137 5 Piece Deerfoot set #20167 PREPARATION: Cut 3 (1 1 /2 pieces) from the ¼ dowel rod. Drill a ¼ hole in the center of the large checked bottom border as indicated on the pattern. Drill ¼ holes in the wood knobs about half way through the balls. Sand all surfaces and wipe clean. Basecoat banner and wood dowel pieces with Camel mixed with Sealer 1:1. Basecoat the three wood knobs with Lamp Black mixed with Sealer 1:1. Let dry. Sand lightly again and wipe clean. Basecoat again but this time with the specified color alone. Let dry between coats. Some colors may require more than one coat for complete coverage. Transfer pattern details as needed. Use the brush size you are most comfortable with for all painting. INSTRUCTIONS: Very lightly transfer lines for the small sign area on top and for separating the inside main area from the checked areas on the sides and bottom. Using Honey Brown, shade down these lines on the sides and around the outside edge of the sign area on top. Then lightly shade around the top edge of the sign area. In addition, shade along the top and bottom edge of the large check area at the bottom. Now transfer basic pattern lines for the bear and Beehive but not the bees. Basecoat as follows: Bear with Terra Cotta, Beehive with Marigold. Background Using the honey comb stamp from the stamp set and Honey Brown, very lightly sponge paint onto the stamp and immediately stamp onto the surface. Repeat to randomly apply the stamp to various places until you are happy with the pattern. Using Honey Brown, very lightly shade all around the outside edge of the bear and Beehive. Using the 1 check stencil and Lamp Black, apply the larger check pattern at the bottom of the plaque as shown. For the sides, I freehand applied the checks using a #10 shader and Lamp Black. 2 artistsclub.com

Transfer remaining pattern lines for the bear and Beehive and basic pattern lines for the bees. Bear Using Dark Chocolate, shade in all the lines forming curls in ears, lines separating ears from head and head from main body; lines separating arms/hands from body, legs from body and down the outside edge of the feet, along the bottom edge of the legs/feet and along the outside edge of the arms and continue along the outside edge of the Beehive. In addition, on the arms/hands along the outside edge and around the outside edge of the face. Mix Terra Cotta + Toffee just enough to lighten the color a little and use this mix to lightly stipple the bear, avoiding the shaded areas for the most part. Using Lamp Black, basecoat the nose; dot the eyes; apply eyebrows and mouth line. Shade on the face, around the outside edge of the nose with Dark Chocolate. Using Titanium White, apply highlight mark to the top of the nose and place tiny dots in the eyes. artistsclub.com 3

Beehive Basecoat opening with Lamp Black. Using Dark chocolate, shade in the lines forming the segments of the beehive. Bees Basecoat the bee bodies and heads with Cadmium Yellow. Using Lamp Black, apply bee body jagged lines; the bee tail sections; apply the antenna lines; dot the noses, eyes and end of the antennas. Using Burnt Sienna, shade the lower edge of the bee bodies and on the head, closest to the body. Using Titanium White, float on the bee wings and apply a tiny dot to the eyes. Using Lamp Black apply the dashed lines for the bee s flight patterns. Lettering Transfer outlines for lettering. Using Lamp Black, apply the lettering. FINISHING Let project dry completely. Be sure any pattern lines that are still visible are erased. Finish with a couple light coats of matte varnish. Glue wood knobs to the dowel pieces. Glue the dowel pieces into the holes in the banner (you may need to lightly sand the dowel end that will go into the hole to have it fit better). Attach the sawtooth hanger to the center back of the plaque, approximately 2 1 /2 from the top edge. (Or use the hanging method of your choice). Enjoy! artistsclub.com 5
