Two more of our students gained UE (both in Year 10) our kura now has four students with UE. All NCEA results for 2012 will be posted at a later time. Last year was the last year Natanahira Herewini here at our kura. Natana has been educated in Te Reo Maori from Kohanga Reo right through to Kura Kaupapa and Wharekura. While at this Kura, Natana has travelled North, Taranaki, Rotorua, Wellington, Takapau, Hawaii, Rarotonga, Peru, Gold Coast and now he has embarked on his longest journey yet. Natanahira will complete his final year of schooling in Copenhagen, Denmark as a Rotary Scholar. Natanahira graduated with NCEA, UE and Pourima from this Kura. He has also performed with credit in Manu Korero and Kapa Haka. Nga mihi nui ki a Natanahira mo tona aroha, tautoko me tona kaha hoki ki te awhina to matou Kura. He mihi nui ki te Rangatira ma te atua mana e tiaki. This year we celebrate our first graduate from Year 1 to Year 13 at Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Raki Paewhenua, Tylamay Cherrington. Tylamay is yet another outstanding student who also has achieved NCEA, UE and performed with credit in Manu Korero, Kapa Haka and Mau Rakau. Tylamay is our most senior student who will be studying to further advance her career opportunities. We wish her well for 2013 and know she will do us proud, kei a ia te mana o te kura. Nau mai, haere mai ki a Whaea Iantha Mutu. Whaea Iantha comes from Ngapuhi. She previously worked at Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Tonga o Hokianga. Whaea Iantha is the new permanent kaiako and will work in akomanga Mataamua. She will also assist Whaea Paea with Putaiao for Wharekura. A powhiri will be held on this day for all new students and kaimahi. Please ensure that all students arrive by 8.45am as the powhiri will begin 9.00am. Kura Start and Finish Times 2013 8.30 am Before Kura supervision begins 8.50 am First bell (all students to go to akomanga) 9.00 am Roll Call (any students arriving after roll call are marked absent for the morning session) 10.30 11.00 am Kai poto 12.45 1.25 pm Kai roa 3.00 pm Kura finishes (all students to be picked up from Ohomairangi) 3.30 pm Teacher supervision finishes (PLEASE PICK YOUR CHILD/REN UP ON TIME) Students arriving after 9.00 am All students must be signed in by a parent or caregiver at the Kura office if they arrive after 9.00am. Students will receive given a late note from the Kaitari that must be given to their kaiako when they go to class. Wharekura students must bring a signed / authorized note from their parents if their parents do not come into the office. If there is no one at the Kura office they can give their note to the kaiako. Students leaving Kura between 9.00 am 3.00 pm All students who are leaving the Kura must be signed out by a parent or caregiver. No student will be allowed to exit the Kura without a note or explanation from their parent and caregiver. If your child/ren is absent, Parents must contact the Kura by 9.00am on (09) 4795624 or via email at office@terakipaewhenua.school.nz Whanau and Visitors All whanau and visitors are to report to the Kura office on arrival at all times to sign in and out for emergency and safety purposes. Haerenga ki Waitangi 2013 Thank you to all whanau who paid their deposits and 1 st milestone payments by the due date last year. This is a friendly reminder that the final milestone payment of $25.00 per person is due by 1 st March 2013. More information about this Haerenga will be sent out throughout the term. Please remember that during this trip Kura will be relocated to Waitangi and all teaching staff will be offsite. Tiaki Taiao 2013 This year we would like to reduce the amount of rubbish and waste here at Kura such as plastics, chip packets, yoghurt containers, glad wrap, foil etc. Tamariki will be asked to put all rubbish from their lunch back in their lunch boxes. Alternatively whanau can purchase reusable plastic containers to reduce rubbish and support the kaupapa. School Donation 2013 The school donation per whanau is $120.00 if paid by the end of Term 1 of each year. If the school donation is paid after term one it is $140.00. Term payments of $35.00 are also acceptable. Wharekura Activity Fees are $75.00 per child per term.

Uniform If you would like to purchase uniform items, please notify the office so they can be ordered. Uniform orders usually take between 4 6 weeks from ordering to delivery. Any non-regulation uniform items will be taken from students and will be returned to parents at the Kura office. Hats These are compulsory for Term 1, 2 and 4 when outside. Any student without a hat will be restricted to the shaded areas only during break times. Shoes Summer uniform (Term 1 and 4) students must wear black leather sandals with a strap on the back. Wharekura students are reminded to wear these correctly and not to stand on the back of the sandal. Jandals ARE NOT allowed to be worn at Kura and will be taken away from students who wear them. Black leather shoes with laces are not allowed to be worn in Term 1 and 4but only when they are wearing formal uniform. Shorts All shorts for boys must be black only, no writing or patterns allowed. These can be purchased at Postie Plus. Jewellery / Make up The wearing of make-up, jewellery including rings, bracelets, necklaces tongue and body piercings are not allowed at the Kura, Any items will be confiscated and kept at the Kura office for parents to collect. However, the Kura does not take responsibility for the loss and/or damage of any phones and other equipment held in our possession. Stationery List 2013 This is attached to the panui. All items must be named and labelled clearly. Please note that some stationery will be required throughout the year and parents will be advised if needed. Please ensure that tamariki have their stationery by Monday 4 th February 2013. If you have any unused or new books from previous years, do not buy new ones, please use those ones first. Alternative whanau can order stationery packs through the Kura office, please see details below: Student Stationery Packs This year we have partnered with Eeny Meeny a school supplies specialist to provide our student stationery packs. If you would like to place an order, please ensure that orders and payment are received at the Kura office by Friday 1 st February 2013 and your child/rens pack/s will be delivered directly to the Kura. Allergies (these must be updated every year) Verification of home address for transport allowance Each term every year, our Kura must submit to the Ministry of Education a list of all whanau who are eligible for transport allowance. The verification of home address from parents ensures that all data we send into the Ministry is true and correct.

To qualify for transport allowance, your child/ren must: be between 5 years and 10 years and live 3.2kms away from Kura be 10 years and older and live 4.8kms away from Kura the distance is the most direct route from home to Kura is calculated on a daily rate and not by the distance they live from the Kura If any of your details have changed, please complete the form below and return to the Kura office by Friday 1 st February 2013. This is a school curriculum activity and while most of the students participate willingly, we have noticed an increase particularly in Year 7 & 8 students who choose not participate in Swimming. Please note that they may not be included in any water activities planned for the Haerenga ki Waitangi. Parents should provide the Kura office with a medical certificate if their children are unable to swim. All consents and payment for swimming must be received at the Kura Office by the Wednesday 6 th February 2013. Please contact the Kura office if you would like to make arrangements for payment for swimming. Eftpos payments are welcome at our office.
