WATERTIGHT. Manufacturing Azur Caoutchouc uses compression molding for all of its dam seals. The parts thus vulcanized are uniform, dense et completely free of shrinkage. "J" seal ( J-Seal ) This seal consists of a rounded part called the bulb and of a flat part. Usually, the bulb has a diameter of 1 3/4 (44.45mm). The flat part has a 9/16 thickness and a total length of 4 (101.6mm), from the bulb s tangent to the end. Note that the J-Seal can be produced with nontraditional sized bulb and flat part. This seal is usually full and can be shipped with a hard coated bulb (fluorocarbon). There is an alternative where the bulb is hollowed; the client decides whether such a bulb or such a coating are required, depending on the requirements. The fluorocarbon used by Azur has a 1/16 (1.59mm) thickness and approximately covers a half circumference (180 degrees) on the surface of the bulb. Its exterior forms a link with the bulb itself.

Double-stem seal This seal can be described as a J-Seal with two flat parts. Its dimensions are the same, but it has a span of 6 1/4 (158.75mm). Just like the J-Seal, it can be produced with a hollow bulb, or covered with fluorocarbon. Flat seal In a cross-sectional view, this seal has a rectangular geometry. It has a 9/16 thickness and approximately a 3 width. The seal s lower part is chamfered, and the upper part can also be chamfered since the measurements vary according to the customers specifications. Dimensional tolerance The seal s dimensional tolerance, in sectional view, are % ±5 in relation to the specified dimensions. For the same gate, the seal s dimensional tolerance, in sectional view, must not vary by more than %2 of the total length of the seal. Considering the characteristics of the material, the manufacturing tolerances are relatively generous. Thus, a tolerance of ± 3/8 (10mm) is often given for the bulbs center to center measurement. On the other hand, it is the characteristics of the material (compressible expandable) that allow a precise installation. For fitting purposes, the client is advised to order longer parts. Note that Azur Caoutchouc mesures all parts in the factory to a temperature of 23 C. Generally used materials The variations of the J-Seal and the double stem are generally made in natural rubber with a hardness of 65 +- 5 Duro. The variations of the flat seals are generally made in natural rubber with a hardness of 45 +- 5 Duro. As shown in the following pages, our products follow strict standards and are pre-tested. Seals connections (vulcanization) The seals are designed so that the number of connections to perform by the gates manufacturer will be limited or avoided, as much as possible. The seals, as well as all the angle pieces, are pre-molded in the factory. The length of each branches of a transition piece (corner) is never below 12 (300mm). Unless conflicting with the shipping requirements, the connections between the transition pieces (corners) and the straight parts are made by hot vulcanization in our factory. The straight parts are automatically supplied in one piece. It is generally recommended that all connections, made both by our factory and the gate manufacturer, be made by hot vulcanization. The ends that are to be spliced need to be cut to a 90 angle according to the thickness. It may be possible that, in certain cases, the seal will have to be vulcanized where the customer is located or in the field. Azur Caoutchouc then rents a portable heating mold specially designed for this task.

Handling and transportation For standard seals (without fluorocarbon), they are normally tightly rolled to obtain a crate size as compact as possible. The seal s distortion is minor and it will not be permanently deformed. On the other hand, shipping of seals with fluorocarbon requires additional care. Those seals are shipped without being bent, in their original form, and the vulcanization points are strengthened by adding support under the base. Usually, Azur ships the seals in rigid crates and suggests direct transportation to where it will be used or stored.
