'Converse' style slippers Converse slippers are always popular! Here is my version. They are fun to crochet and wear. :-) Supplies: Hook: 4.0 mm (G) Body of the slipper: acrylic worsted weight yarn For soles and tops of toes: worsted weight Phentex Slipper and Craft yarn (85 g) or acrylic yarn (100-200 g) Size: Women - the sole is about 8 3/4 inches (22 cm) to adapt the model to another size, change the size of the hook or the weight of the yarn. Abbreviations: Ch = chain(s) sl st = slip stitch sc = single crochet hdc = half double crochet dc = double crochet Blo = black loop only Tog = together Sole (make 2): I suggest making the soles with Phentex yarn, as they are more durable. If using acrylic yarn, you can always double soles. With light-colored yarn, ch 21. Round 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 5 ch, 1 hdc in each of next 7 ch, 1 dc in each of next 6 ch, 9 dc in the last ch. Continue on the other side with 1 dc in each of next 6 ch, 1 hdc in each of next 7 ch, 1 dc in each of next 6 ch, 3 sc in last ch (where the first 2 sc are located), close with 1 sl st in first sc at start. (= 51 ms)
Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count for 1 sc), 2 sc in the same st, 1 sc in each of next 19 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 9 sts, 1 sc in each of next 19 sts, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, close with 1 sl st in 1st sc. (= 64 sc) Round 3: Ch 1 (does not count for 1 sc), 2 sc in the same st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 20 sts, (2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st.) three times. 2 sc in each of next 4 sts, (1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st.) three times. 1 sc in each of next 20 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 6 sts, close with 1 sl st in 1st sc (= 82 sc) Round 4: Ch 1 (does not count for 1 sc), 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in each of the next sts, close with 1 sl st in 1st sc. (= 82 sc) Round 5: Ch 1 (do not count for 1 sc), 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in blo in each of the next sts, close by 1 sl st in first sc. (= 82 ms) Rounds 6-8: Repeat round 4. (= 82 ms) Cut yarn. The narrowest part is the heel. Contour of the sole: Place the sole so that the outside of the sole (the place where you crocheted in the back loop) is facing out. Insert yarn of a contrasting color between the 2nd and 3rd row from the bottom. Crochet 1 row of slip stitches all around the sole, starting behind the heel.
Cut Yarn. Top of the toes (semi-circle) (make 2): Row 1: With light-colored yarn, ch 4 (counts as 1 dc), 6 dc in the 4th ch from hook. (= 7 dc) Row 2: Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in the same stitch, 2 dc in the next 6 sts. (= 14 dc) Rank 3: Ch 3, turn, skip the first st, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st) twice, 2 dc in next 4 sts, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) twice, 1 dc in last st. (= 22 dc)
Continue on the other side with 1 sc, 6 sc one side, 1 sc in the center, 6 sc on the other side. (= 13 sc). Cut yarn.
Shoe tongue: Row 1: Insert the contrasting yarn color in 1st sc of the semi-circle, ch 3 (counts for the 1 st dc) 1 dc in the next 12 sts, turn. (= 13 dc) Row 2: Ch 3 (counts for the 1st dc), 1 dc in all 12 sts, turn. (= 13 dc) Rows 3-11: Repeat row 2. (= 13 dc) Row 12: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in each of the 12 sts. (= 13 dc) Cut yarn.
Toes: Sew the semicircle onto the front part of the sole (the widest part). To do this, locate the center by folding the sole in half, lengthwise. From the center, count 11 sts and place a marker on the 11th st. Do the same for the other side. Then pass the hook through to see if it is symmetrical. Adjust each side if necessary.
Using a tapestry needle, thread a length of light-colored yarn and start sewing from the marker as follows: join the two sides, taking care to align the chains. Pass the needle through the front loop of toe piece and back loop of sole piece. Sew about 22 stitches. Break yarn. Side :
Row 1: Using contrasting colored yarn at the base where the toe piece was sewn to the sole, ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in the next st. until there are 3 ch remaining (corresponding to the last stitch where the toe is sewn to the sole), 2 sc tog, 1 sc in last st, turn. (= 60 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, skip 1 st, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, skip 1 st, 1 sc in last st, turn. (= 58 st) Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 2 sc tog, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, 2 sc tog, turn. (= 56 st) Row 4: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, skip 1 st, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, skip 1 st, 1 sc in last st, turn. (= 54 st) Row 5: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 2 sc tog, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, 2 sc tog, turn. (= 52 st) Row 6: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, skip 1 st, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, skip 1 st, 1 sc in last st, turn. (= 50 st) Row 7: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 2 sc tog, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, 2 sc tog, turn. (= 48 st) Row 8: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, skip 1 st, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, skip 1 st, 1 sc in last st, turn. (= 46 st) Row 9: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 2 sc tog, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, 2 sc tog, turn. (= 44 st)
Row 10: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in each st to end of row, turn. (= 44 st) Row 11: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 2 sc tog, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, 2 sc tog, turn. (= 42 st) Row 12: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in each st to end of row, turn. (42 st) Row 13: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 2 sc tog, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts remain, 2 sc tog, turn. (= 40 st) Break yarn. Contour: With contrasting color yarn, crochet a row of sc all around the contour of the slipper, starting from the lower right side. Insert the contrasting color yarn, ch 1 then 10-12 sc. Be sure to make the same number of stitches on each of the two sides.
Break yarn. Laces (make 2): Crochet 200-230 chains (or a necessary number for sufficient length). Crest (make 2): With light-colored yarn, ch 4 and close the circle with 1 sl st. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 13 dc in the circle, 1 sl st to top of ch 3 at the beginning of the round. (= 14 dc). Leave enough yarn length for sewing the patch to the slipper. With contrasting color yarn, embroider a star on the back of the badge. Sew badge onto slipper.
