Cut Rough Opening Template Carefully remove unit from carton. Cut Rough Opening Template from carton using a sharp knife. Rough Opening Template ROUGH OPENING OPENING TEMPLATE TEMPLATE 2. Position Rough Opening Template Position Rough Opening Template on exterior sheathing with the base of the template 6' 7-1/2", 6' 10-3/8" or 7'-11-1/2" (depending on height of door) above the sill on which the patio door will rest. Cut out arched opening from sheathing. Install appropriate header and blocking to provide framing for the elliptical window unit. Rough Opening Template Header Blocking 2
3. Install Patio Door Frame Assemble and install Patio Door frame according to directions provided with the door. (Frame Assembly and for Gliding Patio Doors, #0005310) Follow the Masonry/Replacement section in Frame Guide for preparing and installing Head Jamb Cap Flashing and. Do Not Install Door Panels at this time. Side Side 4. Remove From Elliptical Sill Cut Sill from sill using a sharp utility knife. Make sure that end of Side s remains as an overlap. Side Overlap Sill 5. Notch Side Remove 1/2" from the inside edge of the overlap on the Elliptical Unit's. 6. Apply Joining Blocks Apply Joining Blocks to bottom of sill with legs facing outward. Joining Blocks should be flush with ends of unit and interior of frame. Attach using 1-1/2" (4d) finish nails (do not set nails). Overlap 1/2" Joining Block 3
7. Position Elliptical Window Over Door Frame From the exterior, position Elliptical Window over door frame. The Elliptical Window's must overlap the door frame to the exterior to prevent water infiltration. Overlap 8. Clamp Units Together Clamp Elliptical unit above door. Flush inside edge of Elliptical with Patio Door Head Jamb. Clamp units together to maintain position. Clamps Flush 9. Drill Through Door Head Jamb Drill 5/32" holes 5" from the inside of the side jamb through head jamb in the interior (operating) door channel and through joining blocks. Locate and drill four additional holes through the door head jamb. Place temporary shims at center point. 5" 5" Drill Holes Temporary Shim 5" 10. Fasten Units Together Screw up through Head Jamb of Door into Sill of Elliptical unit with six No. 10 x 2-1/2" flat head screws provided. Screw heads must be flush for door to operate properly. Check Elliptical sill and Door head jamb for level. Adjust screws at center holes to remove any bow. Remove shims. Adjust Screws to Remove Bow 4
11. Nail Perimeter of Elliptical Top Unit Nail perimeter of the Elliptical Top unit through the, securely fastening the unit to the framing or solid blocking. 12. Clean Transom Joining Area Clean all surfaces in the joining area of both the Elliptical and Patio Door unit using a surface conditioner such as denatured alcohol to make sure of good adhesion of trim strip tape. Apply Backer Rod and silicone sealant to joint. 13. Position Exterior Trim Strip Silicone With Backer Rod! CAUTION When applying Trim Strip, the temperature of the units and Trim Strip must be 60 F (15.6 C) or warmer. Insufficient adhesion may result if applied at colder temperatures. Long Leg 2" Peel back off backing from one end of trim strip.! CAUTION Make sure Trim Strip is applied correctly. Tape is permanent and once applied trim strip will not be able to be removed. Position Trim Strip long leg down over door head jamb and flush with ends of units. Press end of Trim Strip firmly into position. 14. Apply Exterior Trim Strip Gradually pull off tape backing while firmly pressing Trim Strip with palm of hand. Slowly work across joining area removing only a small amount of tape backing at a time making sure Trim Strip is correctly positioned. Press Trim Strip firmly into place. Tap along entire length of Trim Strip using a wood block and hammer to make sure Trim Strip is fully seated. Tape Trim Strip 5
15. Seal Trim Strip Ends Completely seal both ends of Trim Strip with silicone sealant. Locate instructions packaged with Patio Door panels and Install panels according to instructions. Silicone Sealant Caulk Gun Trim Strip 16. Apply Exterior Siding & Silicone Sealant Apply exterior finish over of Elliptical and Patio Door units. Leave 1/4" space between siding and units. Apply silicone sealant around full perimeter of both Door and Elliptical unit. Silicone Sealant 17. Insulate Around Exterior of Unit! CAUTION When insulating between the unit s frame and rough opening DO NOT over pack batt insulation or over fill with expandable foam. Bowed jambs may result causing performance problems and/or incorrect operation of unit. Insert insulation loosely between frame of Elliptical Top, Patio Door and wall framing. Do not over pack or overfill. Insulation Insulation 18. Apply Extension Jambs & Interior Trim (OPTIONAL) Apply extension jambs by seating tongue into groove on the frame of the Elliptical Top unit and nailing through pre-drilled holes. Align ends of arched extension jambs with door extension jambs.
