Ferdowsi Cup is an international chess festival recognized by the World Chess Federation FIDE. Its aim is to bring the best chess players in the world together. We truly hope that all the players, coaches and accompanying persons will have an enjoyable time and when the tournament is over, everyone will travel safely home, with memories that will be treasured forever. Hopefully, new friendships will be made, and previous ones renewed. I know that it is an honor for Khorasan Razavi province to be hosting this prestigious event. General Information The 26 th Ferdowsi Cup International Chess Festival will be held in Mashhad, Iran from March 2-9, 2018. Organizers Khorasan Razavi Chess Association under the auspices of Iranian Chess Federation (IRCF). Type of Chess Festival The festival consists of three open tournaments: Tournament A For players with a FIDE rating higher than 2000 Tournament B For players with a FIDE rating lower than 2001 Tournament C For players under 14 years old Registration and Entry Fees The online registration must be completed for all players by visiting: http://khorasan-chess.com/ Entry fee is 70 for all players. (entry is free for players holding the GM, IM, WGM or WIM titles and players with +2400 FIDE rating) This online form submission is available only up to 11:59 PM, March 1, 2018. Please note: All players must provide their FIDE Identification Number (FIN) at the time of entry. If you do not have a FIN, you must apply to your own federation for a FIN before entering the festival. For the convenience of foreign players, the entry fee will be accepted during registration session at the venue of the tournament. Technical Regulations The tournament will be played according to the rules of the Swiss System in 9 rounds. The rate of play will be according to FIDE regulations 90 minutes for the whole game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from the move 1. Players arriving 30 minutes or more after the start of a round shall lose unless the arbiter decides otherwise. The pairings will be made using a Swiss Manager software with JaVaFo engine and shall be announced as soon as possible after each round finishes. Pairings will be published on the: chess-results.com & khorasan-chess.com also at https://t.me/ferdowsichess2018 official Telegram Channel of the tournament and placed in front of the entrance to the Playing Hall. Players Behaviors In line with new FIDE guidelines, all mobile phones, tablets, and similar mobile devices (even switched off) are banned from the playing areas. If it becomes evident during the game that a player brought any device to the playing hall, he/she will be forfeited. During the game, it is not allowed to leave the playing hall or talk to other players and spectators. As long as the game is in progress, the player may talk only to the arbiters or to his/her opponent, as permitted by the Laws of Chess. Players are not allowed informally tell an arbiter that they suspect that another player is in breach of Anti-Cheating (AC) regulations. Instead, a formal complaint must be filed. All written complaints and any written communications related to such complaint(s) shall be duly recorded by the arbiter and subsequently presented to the chief arbiter and Anti- Cheating Committee (ACC) of the tournament. In case of tie following criteria will be used: Tiebreak Systems 1. Direct Encounter (if tied players have all played each other) 2. Buchholz Cut 1 3. Buchholz Cut 2 4. Median Buchholz 1 5. Sum of Buchholz Appeals and Appeal Committee The Appeals Committee will be selected prior to the first round during the Technical Meeting and will be made up of 3 members and 2 reserves. Players may lodge an appeal against the decision of the chief arbiter. The appeal must be made in writing and presented to the member of the Appeal Committee within 30 minutes from the end of the game. A deposit of 1000000 IRR must be accompanied by the written appeal. If the appeal is successful the deposit shall be returned. If the appeal is turned down the deposit shall be retained by the tournament Organizing Committee unless the appeal members decide otherwise.
Visa Support Important note for participants outside Iran: The organizers will issue invitations to all foreign participants, who have addressed to the organizing committee. Please fill out the registration form and send it to armantino@gmail.com with a copy of your passport no later than February 21, 2018. If you leave your application too late you will not be able to process your visa in time.
