Throwing Tall Columnar Vases Gord will demonstrate throwing 3 tall forms and joining them to construct one tall vase. Michael Kifer 'Expressive, Painterly Earthenware' Working as a potter for over 30 years, Michigan-based potter, Michael Kefir, will spend the weekend demonstrating his whimsical approach to textured clay construction. He will also demonstrate his painterly approach to decorating clay, by spraying and brushing underglazes, and various other methods to decorate and embellish his work. 1

FIBRE ARTS BEGINNERS FELTING Learn to felt with the Fibre Arts Group. Create simple landscape designs. First night will be a sunset and the second night will be a simple landscape of your choice (approximately 8 X 10). Kit Fee is less than $20.00 and will include everything that you will need. Date: Tuesday Sept. 30 & Oct. 7 Time: 7 9 pm Fee: $20members/$30 non-members Material Fee: kit fee extra payable to the instructor RUGHOOKING CREATING TEXTURE IN RUG HOOKING - 2 Days In this class you will be empowered to create distinctive hooking. By using creative stitches, wide cut sculpting, a bit of Proddy, Sari silks, textured yarn, Trapunto and a bit of glitz etc., you will further develop a unique hooking style. Class will work a linen sampler, 10 x 8, with the methods demonstrated. Notes will be provided for future reference. Originally a four day course, this seminar will appeal to hookers with some experience. Maximum 15 people. Instructor: Beatrice Grant Dates: Fri. Oct. 3 & Sat. FINE ARTS MIXED MEDIA - 1 DAY This class offers a sense of freedom and play. You will learn the foundations of mixed media art through experimentation and layering. Explore your creativity through the use of mediums such as acrylic paint, pastels, images, papers and more. You will learn to prepare your surface and layer using methods such as collage, photo image transfer, stenciling and stamping. Instructor: Ruth Davis Dates: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm Time: Sat. First session- learn to make the blocks using 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" strips. Second session - 1 full day - completed blocks will be assembled and on-point setting will be demonstrated. This class will concentrate on these while giving the satisfaction of making a first quilt! Starting with a jelly roll of coordinated fabrics, we will study the colour selection and arrangement, learn rotary cutting techniques, practice accurate ¼ seam allowances, organized construction and pressing techniques, using a pattern from Scrap Basket Sensations by Kim Brackett. *Homework is essential. QUILTING CLASSES STACKING THE DECK- 1 day We are going to make stacks of fabric, cut an arc, sew, restack the new fabric, cut more arcs, sew, swap, cut some more, sew some more until we are happy with what we've done. In this class, we will be focusing on the various techniques with multicoloured papers to make your own masterpiece, with examples given of monogrammed initials and an intricate snowflake. You will be provided with all materials including a quilling tool that will allow you to continue making your own works of art at home. Ages: 8 and up Dates: Sat. COLOUR PLAY WITH ALCOHOL INKS Prepare yourself for an intense colour experience with this expressive medium. We will be experimenting with the application of vibrant inks to a variety of surfaces including yupo, paper, fabric and ceramic. The results are lively and exciting! Ages: 8 and up Dates: Sat. October 25 Time: 9:30 11:30 am Fee: $25.00 materials included EXPERIMENTAL WATERCOLOUR SNOWFLAKES! In this three step process, students will plan a layout using word and image transfers including the design of their own snowflake, then apply watercolour paint techniques along with a variety of experimental mediums to produce vivid and exciting works of art! Ages: 11 and up Dates: Wed., November 26, December 3,10 Time: 4:30 5:30 pm Fee: $35.00 materials included ZENTANGLE 1 Zentangle 1 is a fun and relaxing method of artistic doodling! This exciting art form, developed by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, uses specific, easy-to-learn patterns drawn with focus, imagination and intentionality to create complex pieces of art. Students will gain a sense of empowerment and self-satisfaction with the quality of work they will successfully accomplish. Ages: 9 and up Dates: Sat. October 4, 2014 Time: 9:00 12:00 noon Fee: $32.00 materials included ZENTANGLE 2 Zentangle 2 continues to explore this expressive form of artistic doodling! We will be learning new and more complex patterns to add to our current lexicon, as well as advanced techniques to contribute depth and dimension to our work. We will experiment with variable borders, irregular shapes, enhancements, shading, value patterns, composition and ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art).
