24 Modern Quilt is defined as including, but not limited to, the following characteristics: the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, and alternate grid work. 25 Quilt - Row by Row Experience 2016 A Row by Row Quilt is defined as at least eight (8) different rows from eight (8) different 2016 participating Row by Row Quilt Shops. The 2016 theme is Home Sweet Home. Combine your rows in any way to create a unique quilt that represents the fun you had traveling throughout the summer to visit the shops. Horizontally, vertically, diagonally or around a medallion-it s up to you your imagination is limitless. 1. ENTERING THE 2016 TN STATE FAIR Entry Deadlines Quilting & Sewing Only: On-Line registration ends Aug 19 TH (EARLIER THAN LAST YEAR!) Mail in Registration Postmarked by Aug 12 TH To enter the 2016 TN State Fair go to the website (tnstatefair.org) and click on COMPETE and then COMPETITIONS Scroll down to CREATIVE ARTS and then choose Dept P CA D313-316 Sewing & Quilting Adults & Youth This is the online catalog for the Fair. Look in both sewing and quilting categories to see where your quilt or item fits. Write down the category number for use when you go to register in other screen. Next, go to the RED BOX ON LINE REGISTRATION at the top of the website and follow the prompts. First you must add yourself as an exhibitor. Next you will enter your items/quilts along with a description. Entry Fees per item are collected on-line and are $2.00 adults and $1.00 youth/teens. Print out two (2) copies of your entry receipts. One will stay with the quilt/item and one you will keep. If you wish to mail in your entry, you must print out the paper entry form for CREATIVE ARTS and submit it along with your registration fee to: TN State Fair; Entry Dept P, P.O. When dropping off quilts/items at both the quilt shops and the TN Fairgrounds, you must have a copy of your entry receipt attached to the item. The entry receipt MUST have the quilt shop name written on it and where you intend to pick up your quilt after the Fair. Quilts need to have labels covered with tape or a piece of fabric. Bed size quilts do NOT have to have a hanging sleeve, however all wall hangings do. B. AFTER FAIR PICK UP: TN Fairgrounds Creative Arts Bldg Pick Up One day only Mon Sept 19 th 9-7 p.m. Other Designated Off Site Pick Up quilts/items will be delivered back to the quilt shops between Thur. Sept 22 nd through Fri. Sept 30 th.the quilt shop will notify you when your item has arrived back at the shop. If you have dropped off an item at a quilt shop, but want to pick up your quilt yourself on Mon Sept 19 th, you must indicate this in writing on your entry receipt next to the quilt shop s name when you originally enter the quilt/item so the Fair is prepared to release it on that date. NO EXCEPTIONS. This is for the security of the entries, the quilt shops, and the exhibitors piece of mind.. 3. OFFICIAL JUDGING RESULTS Official judging results will be released only after the submittal to and approval by the TN State Fair. They will be posted on the TN State Fair website. LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS The Fair is hosting live demonstrations of various creative arts. We are in need of quilting volunteers for demos during certain days and hours at the Fair. Please consider having
your monthly guild meeting during one of these times. These demos show the public that quilting is a time-honored and thriving art here in TN as well as spiking new interest in the younger generation that quilting is easy to learn and a terrific way of self-expression. Just come, bring your sewing machine and latest projects, and quilt or sew with us! We will also have sewing machines available to use at the Fair.
