Back: With smaller needles and color E, CO 60 (64, 72)sts. Work in (K1, P1) Rib pattern for 2 rows. Join A and work in Rib pattern for 8 rows. Change to larger needles and continue in A until piece measures 14½ (15½, 17)" from bottom edge. On WS, BO 18 (19, 21) sts for shoulder, work across 24 (26, 29) sts and place on holder. BO remaining 18 (19, 21) sts for shoulder. Front: Work as for back in Rib Pattern. Change to larger needles, continue in A for 2 (1, 0) sts. Join B and work across row #1 on chart, end 2 (1, 0) sts A. Continue in this way until 59 (62, 67) rows of chart are complete. Continue in A until piece measures 12 (13, 14½) from bottom edge. Neck Shaping: On RS, work 25 (26, 29) sts, join 2nd ball of yarn and BO center 10 (12, 13) sts, work to end. Working both sides at once, BO 3 sts from each neck edge once, 2 sts once, then decrease 1 st every other row twice. Work even until piece measures 14½ (15½, 17)" from bottom edge. BO remaining 18 (19, 21) sts for each shoulder. Sleeves: With smaller needles and color E, CO 32(34,34) sts. Work in (K1, P1) Rib Pattern for 2 rows. Join A and work in Rib Pattern for 8 rows. Change to larger needles and continue in A, increasing 4 sts evenly across row #1 until 36 (38, 38) sts. AT SAME TIME: Increase 1 st each side every 6th row until 52 (56, 60) sts are reached. Work even until piece measures 11½ (12, 12½)" from bottom edge. BO on WS. Finishing: Block pieces very lightly. Sew left shoulder seam. Neckband: With RS facing, with smaller needles and color A, pick up and K70 ( 72, 72) sts evenly around neck. Work in (K1, P1) Rib Pattern for 6 rows. On RS, join color E and work 1 row in Rib Pattern. BO on WS in Rib Pattern. Sew second shoulder and neckband seam. Mark 5¾ (6¼, 6½)" down from the shoulder at each armhole edge. Sew top of sleeve at armhole edge between markers. Sew remaining side and sleeve seams. For Eyes (2): With embroidery needle and black thread, attach white button in an x - formation, as indicated on chart. For Ears (2): With larger needles and color B, CO 2 sts. Work 2 rows. On RS, increase 1 st at each end and work 4 rows. On RS, decrease 1 st each end.
On WS, P2 sts together. Cut tail and thread through remaining st and weave to bottom. With thinner strand of B, form chain st around ear for cleaner finish. Attach at bottom as indicated on chart. For Steering Wheel: With double pointed needles and color E, CO 4 sts. Work in I-cord for 4¼. Cut tail and thread through remaining sts, pulling tightly and tack. Attach at both ends as indicated on chart, forming an arc. Tack at top center as indicated on chart. For Hooves (2): With larger needles and color B, CO 5 sts. Work 4 rows even. On RS, decrease 1 st each side, leave tail and weave to bottom. With thinner strand of B, form chain st around hoof for cleaner finish. Attach each hoof bottom at sides of wheel as indicated on chart. Tack top of each hoof onto wheel as indicated in photo. For Headlights (2): With embroidery needle and strand of color D, attach yellow button in an x- formation, as indicated on chart. For Mane (2): With color B, cut 8-3 strands, and 4-4 strands. Fold each strand in half, and attach with crochet hook as indicated on chart. 3 strands for smaller and 5 strands for larger giraffe along neck. Trim to ½. 2 strands for each giraffe at top of head. Trim to 1. Note: With black thread, tack down knot of each fringe to secure.
