Scientific Approach to Cool Room Validation. Garry Ward / July 2016
Presenter: Mr. Garry Ward Established Industrial Precision Instruments P/L in 1994. Degree in Chemistry Certified Lv III Thermographer & Trainer. ( Past 12 years) Senior Member of CITA in Aust. & Infraspection IR Institute USA. 40 Years in Chemical Industry & Conditioning Monitoring Technologies.
Infrared Thermal Imaging for Cool Room Inspections. Thermography An improved scientific approach using Thousands of real time surface temperatures instantaneously captured as live digital streaming.
PROPOSAL Innovative approach for the implementation of Infrared Thermal Imaging to extensively temperature profile and validate a building envelope. Infrared Technology is certainly not new. However our new scientific approach to cool rooms for Inspections & Validation I believe is. Infrared Thermal Imaging & the Complementary Technologies allows us to conduct a comprehensive inspection.
Qualitative vs Quantitative IR. Inspection Conducted in 2 Formats Qualitatively Envelope anomalies & non conformity Portable IR ( Quick, easy, simple assessment & reporting.) Quantitatively Complete IR & time based envelope inspection & temperature profiling using a fixed real time IR Camera. (Extensive investigation, Tempt profiling with multiple technologies) Performed by International Instrumentation P/L.
IR Images: ( Depict incredible amount of information of the Surface & Temperature Data. )
COMMON PRACTICE - The Data Logger Industry Data loggers capture 100 s of air temperatures over given delay intervals, IR Cameras capture 100,000 s of surface temperatures of walls & product every second. 300,000 Tempts. *Temperature profiling, Cool room integrity, monitoring defrost cycles, validation of building envelope to specification is extremely comprehensive with Thermal Imaging & other complementary technologies. *Conformity of the structure, uniformity of temperature with the envelope, moisture ingress, structural leaks, poor or damaged seals, temperature conformity during Defrost are all key parameters investigated during a full Thermographic Inspection.
Validation inspections for all facets of Cool Rooms Qualitative & Quantitative Inspections Combined. It s not just about the temperature on the dial.!!!!! New Rooms built ( Envelopes ) Full Inspection prior to commissioning Envelopes that have been recently modified Older Rooms or modified & upgraded Modified or repaired Refrigeration Chilling Circuits Monitor defrost cycles Integrity Surveys
Qualitative Inspection Infrared anomalies in a structure from Internal & External ( if possible) Insulation & wall Leaks ( Portable IR Camera ) Moisture Inspection ( IR camera & Moisture Meter ) Internal wall inspection ( Boroscope / Video-scope) Leak Inspection of all doors, windows & modifications ( 40 KHz Ultrasonics)
Quantitative Inspection ( Thermal Imaging & Complementary Technologies ) Thermal imaging of surfaces & stored products Time lapse capture of IR Images every second or minute IR Image data is 110,000 or 307,000 Temperatures / Second / Image Time capture to Hard Drive is from 2hrs to 6 hrs ( Continuous ) Investigation temperatures during & after defrost cycles Data logger verification & correlation to IR Camera Data Full verification of the surfaces within the envelope Ultrasonics / Contact Tempts / Moisture measurements Inspection conducted to International Standard
Equipment Used: IR Camera, High Resolution 110,000 x 0.05 mk Tripod mounted Camera, temperature stabilised at 12-15C Temp.& Humidity Data loggers ( Testo ) Fixed Emissivity Targets situated within the envelope: E = 0.94 Calibrated / Certified Contact Thermometers & IR Camera Air Borne Ultrasonic Gun ( Model UE3000 ) Boro-Scope / Video Scope ( Micro image capture ) Moisture Meter: ( Testo ) Digital Camera ( verify visual inspection) Blower Door ( Client only request)
