Number Sense Some considerations to keep in mind when helping young children learn about numbers are: recognizing quantities, visualizing quantities, and naming quantities.

Grouping in 5s Just as our fingers group in 5s, our brains require grouping in fives to recognize and visualize quantities.

Addition Games v Go to the Dump v Addition War

Addition War Purpose: To give the players practice in adding two numbers. Goal: To collect all the cards from the other player.

Addition War 3 + 9 is 12 and 6 + 5 is 11. 3 9 6 5

Addition War For a simpler game, only use the numbers 1 to 5, or 1 to 6. For concentrating on more difficult facts, use cards 4 to 9 or 5 to 9.

Addition Games v Go to the Dump v Addition War v Rows & Columns

Rows and Columns Purpose: To give the players practice in adding up to fifteen. Goal: To collect the most cards in rows or columns that add up to fifteen.
