OPPORTUNITY VR & AR: NOTHING NEW... WHY NOW? Virtual and Augmented reality technologies have seen periods of both explosive growth and fall across a number of decades. These technologies were first developed in the 80 s, although the recent Oculus acquisition by Facebook in 2014 for 2 Bn$ kicked off a new wave of technology development and R&D bringing it closer to consumers. A number of other major corporations like Microsoft, Google, Qualcomm, Intel, Apple and Nvidia, among others, are currently jumping into the space with promising both B2C and B2B products. 01. 02. 03. 04. Computing processing speeds start to be at the point where users can have an affordable high-quality immersive experience, specially in VR. Economies of scale achieved during last decade through the growth of mobile phones are allowing for a penetration of VR mobile experiences at lower costs for consumers. The launch of 3D-camera -powered phones will contribute too to the democratization of the technology, specially for AR, allowing the growth of a potential mass market in a 3 to 5 years timespan. Venture Capital investment and M&A activities have spiked in 2017 and continue to grow at a constant pace. The big hardware players in the space like Apple, HTC, Samsung, Oculus, etc. have strong commercial interests to push these technologies further as their P&L accounts DOCUMENT NAME 6 depend heavily on new products sales figures.

OPPORTUNITY THE NEW WAVE OF AR PHONES A few 3D-sensors-powered phones have been launched into the market from Asus and Lenovo using Google Tango technology to map 3D environments and improve the positioning of holograms into the real world. Apple launched recently the ARKit and Google launched ARcore which is already being used widely. There is currently a titan war in between the two and Facebook for having the key to the mass channel of AR platforms, which is definitely positive for the overall development of this industry. OPPORTUNITY VR/AR: THE NEXT COMPUTING PLATFORM Alex Kipman, creator of the Hololens and other executives like Heather Bellini from Goldman Sachs predict that VR/AR technologies will eventually converge and become the next and last computing platform after the mobile phone: VR and AR have the potential to transform how we interact with almost every industry today, and we think it will be equally transformative both from a consumer and an enterprise perspective. We think VR and AR will be as transformative as the smartphone market. - Heather Bellini, VP at Goldman Sachs 1996: People wondered why would I use the Internet, with so limited content, not many users online and without proven business models it? 2004: Will we really use mobile phones on a daily basis? Is it worth to be connected 24/7? 2017: Why would people spend time interacting with virtual objects in virtual environments? Why would users use this interface to communicate and access information on the cloud? That future starts NOW.
