Announcements Local 220 Nets Loose a Moderator There are several 220 Nets in the local area. Bob (W4HUE) has recently had to stop moderating all 220 Nets to take care of his wife who is recuperating from hip surgery. His absence has opened several positions. If you have 220 equipment and would like to pitch-in and share responsibilities for one (or more) of these Nets, we welcome your services. The 220 Nets that need moderators are as follows: Mount Mitchell (224.540 MHZ) alternating every-other Monday at 8:00 PM Mount Pisgah (224.260 MHZ) alternating every-third Sunday at 9:00 PM Mount Pisgah (224.260 MHZ) alternating every-third Thursday at 8:00 PM In Addition Bob (W4HUE) also moderated the Good Morning Net alternating with 2 other moderators alternating Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:00 AM on the 146.760 MHZ repeater. Shrinking the 75 Meter Phone Band The ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League) has filed a petition with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to reduce bandwidth from 3600 KHZ to 3650 KHZ to make room for more RTTY (Radioteletype) communications. Their petition also calls for moving the automatically-controlled sub-band from 3600 to 3615 KHZ.

220 MHZ Band Plan Those of us who support the 220 band know that its propagation is similar to that of 2 meters. It includes Sporadic-E, meteor scatter, troposcatter, aurora, and EME. Here is a listing of the 220 band for those interested in experimenting: Item Frequency in MHZ Weak Signal modes 222.0 to 222.150 EME (Earth-Moon-Earth) 222.0 to 222.025 Propagation Beacons 222.05 to 222.06 SSB (Single Side Band) & CW (Continuous Wave) Calling Frequency 222.100 Weak Signal SSB & CW 222.10 to 222.15 Weak Signal, ACSB (Amplitude Compandored Sideband modulation), Repeater inputs FM (Frequency Modulated) Repeater Inputs 222.15 to 222.25 222.25 to 223.38 FM Simplex 223.40 to 223.52 Digital & Packet 223.52 to 223.64 Links, Control 223.64 to 223.70 FM Simplex, Packet, Repeater Outputs 223.71 to 223.85 Repeater Outputs Only 223.85 to 224.98 Calendar of Events Here are some notable dates upcoming: Date Tuesday, 1, 2016 Description BRARC Meeting. Some are students, teachers, pilots, technicians, police officers, doctors, executives, retired military, engineers, you name it. The Blue Ridge Amateur Radio Club (BRARC) is all of these things. Another key benefit it that they give-back in many ways back to their community. Amateur radio operators at BRARC donate

time and equipment to participate with the Department of Emergency Management, the Red Cross, and FEMA. Radio operators practice using their equipment without power from the grid. So during REAL emergencies they can supply the necessary communication to first responders so they can provide help to those who need it. Hurricane Sandy was a perfect example. Ham radio operators helped FEMA direct needed supplies and medical attention. BRARC also provides volunteer community support in a variety of community activities including, parades including the 4th of July, and Christmas parades, walk-a-thons, bike-a-thons, and the Fletcher Flier. The Blue Ridge Amateur Radio Club also provides daily and weekly forums via what they call "Nets." You don't need a ham license to listen to a net - just a radio. These forums include informal sessions or "rag chews" that discuss local events or just about any topic. Blue Ridge Echo Submissions If you have timely information that you would like to publish in the Echo, all submissions must be received by the first 6-7 days of each month in order to meet publication deadlines.
