What will BIM Support Require? Project RFP with Attachment F for Overview & Deliverable Requirements. Team Contacts & Areas of Responsibility Milestones for Delivery 3D Geometry of all building systems in DWG for reference What level of Completion was the 3D taken to? Have Building Systems been checked for Interferences? 2D CAD Sheets in DWG and PDF for reference and incorporation. Were Documentation Symbols in REVIT setup for USACE standards for NCS? Manufacturer Cut Sheets as Basis of Design later for As-Builts.
Workflow Fidelity at import is not available by Conversion from REVIT. ReConstruction from Scratch is the Process that must be used. REVIT EXPORT to DGN EXPORT to DWG IFC to DGN ReCONSTRUCTION DGN

ReContructing 3D -Split Supplied DWG into Separate Models. -Split by Discipline i / Building Systems -USACE Naming Format for Model DGNs -Use DWGs as Point of Reference when constructing Bentley BIM -Location / Dimension / Quantity -Reconstruct over referenced DWG 3D and/or 2D Plans -Find Objects for Incorporation and copy forward. -Objects that will not need to be re-edited by Bentley -Drop to Elements then Select & Re-Group the Set -Apply USACE Parts to incorporated Object. -Attach Instance Data and Edit when Required.
ReContructing Views / Creating Extractions -Extraction Process well defined within Bentley. -Cut Lines in Con-Docs define where 3D is sliced. -Using Rules by Discipline to affect output. -Run extractions and compare to DWG equivalents from REVIT -USACE File Naming Format for Extractions -Add Missing Elements from Extraction into CAD Model file. -DWG reference may offer additional elements for incorporation. -USACE File Naming Format for CAD Models
ReContructing Schedules -Schedules are Excel Spreadsheets. -Populated by Instance Data from the models -Filled in Manually when not tied to the models (export from REVIT?) -Paste into CAD Sheets for inclusion -USACE Excel Schedules included with Workspace
ReContructing CAD Sheets -Create separate DGN Sheet for each Hardcopy Sheet. -Reference DWG CAD Sheets if available to match the composition. -Attach CAD Models & Extractions as references and Compose -Attach Excel Schedule Graphics and Compose -Copy forward annotations if graphically compliant -Remap colors and lines if required -OR Create new compliant annotations and symbols -USACE File Naming Format for CAD Sheets.
Strengths in Process Bentley from Conception through As-Built: Designers use CAD/BIM of choice use BIM Support as expanded capacity alongside Designers or Self-Perform. Bentley Model prepared for Interim Reviews and Submittals in full compliance with Attachment F., including checking for and resolving interferences. Material Quantities in support of Cost-Estimates provides cost reference for design. 4D Simulation to Resolve / Sell Difficult Construction Sequences Bentley from 65% through As-Built: Designers use their CAD/BIM platform of choice, keeping all efficiencies developed internally to those team members. BIM Support initiates after design is substantially resolved, preparing new BIM in Bentley format from scratch.
Weaknesses in Process Bentley from Conception through As-Built: If 3 rd Party Bentley Support, Higher Cost, as Bentley BIM is reworked through design iterations and interference resolution. More involvement in Design Process. Plan for some degree of lag with 3 rd Party Team to catch up state of in-house design. Bentley from 65% through As-Built: Not Compliant with Requirement for Interim Submittals BIM Support used as safety net when reworking the BIM around design already established. Discovery of Canned objects from other platforms that do not truly represent Equipment or Systems they are supposed to. Less effective use for Material Quantities in support of Cost- Estimates, a valuable Contractor Elective in Attachment F.
Moving Forward Software Development 2D becomes Live in V8i Plugin for REVIT being improved Imodel format offers collaboration Workflow Improvements Requirements for Support are Defined We have learned what to ask. Try to get On-Board much earlier Early Involvement results in better product Early Involvement satisfies the USACE.
Attachment F Contractor Electives Bentley BIM can support project scheduling: 6.3 Project Scheduling using the Model: Bentley BIM can support project scheduling through 4D Construction Simulation Bentley BIM can provide support for Cost Estimating: 6.4 >> for the Execution Plan. 6.4.1 >> for Interim Submittals. 6.4.2 >> Supporting Data for an MII Estimate at Interim Submittals and at project completion.
