Goals and Objectives Upon completion of this course, students will: Be able to identify different types of camera and their features Be able to apply different file formats, quality settings and resolution to images Be able to perform advanced digital camera exposure techniques Be able to perform advanced digital camera lighting techniques Be able to compose photographs Be able to do basic correction or modification of photographic images using digital photo editing software Be able to formally analyze and critique photographs
Format The first portion of each class will consist of a lecture pertaining to the lab project for that day. There will be an open discussion of the topics covered, then a discussion/demonstration of the lab. Students may complete the lab in the remaining time. Evaluation Grading for the course will be based on study questions, labs, quizzes, tests, class attendance, visual notebook, digital photography portfolio and a final exam. Students without a camera will NOT pass this class. Cameras must be SLR or advanced (with shutter speed and aperture modes) point and shoot digital cameras. Students with basic point and shoot digital cameras can NOT receive an A grade. Photography Rules Photos with a time and date stamp will NOT be accepted. Inappropriate subject matter will NOT be accepted. Blurry photos will NOT be accepted, use tripod to prevent camera shake. EXIF date and time must be set correctly, photos with EXIF dates prior to the semester s start date will NOT be accepted.
