Frequently Asked Questions There are sure to be lots of questions about starting a new school. Hopefully, you will have a chance to ask any questions you want about CCW during transition visits and on the transfer days. However, here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions. Will I get lost? What happens if I do get lost? In Year 7 you will be based on the Scoresby Site which is not too big. All of the classrooms are numbered and labelled. Year 7 classrooms are together in one area of the building. When you arrive on the transfer days, you will be taken to your first lesson and shown around after that. By the end of the transfer days, you will already feel that you know the site well. If you do get lost, staff and students are always happy to help you. What time do I need to be at Caedmon College in the morning? Lessons begin at 8.55am, so you should arrive no later than 8.50am. Sometimes, if you are arriving by bus or train, they can be late. Do not worry about this, it is not your fault and your teachers will be informed. How will I know which lesson I have and where I need to be? When you start Caedmon College in September, you will be given a timetable which shows you what lessons you have on what days. You will be given help to understand the timetable and find your way to your different lessons. At the start of the day, a bell rings to let you know it is time for the lesson to start. At the end of the lesson, another bell rings and you have five minutes to walk to your next lesson before a bell rings to let you know the lesson is starting. On transfer days, you will stay with your base group (class) to begin with and move around together. Every teacher takes a register at the start of each lesson to make sure you are safe and are where you should be. What do I do with my coat and PE kit when I m not using them? Lockers are available, but otherwise there are cloakrooms near your form rooms where you can hang up your things. What will I do at morning break? At break time you can buy a snack from the canteen or you can bring your own snack (something healthy) and a bottle of water (no fizzy drinks allowed). What happens at lunch time? Lunch time lasts for 45 minutes. Each year group lines up and goes into lunch separately. Bells ring to let students know when it is their turn to go for lunch (in year groups). You will soon get used to this and at first we will help you. After you have eaten, you have free time with your friends in the College grounds. When you start Caedmon College in September, you
might decide to attend one of our lunch time clubs. There are lots of clubs happening, here are just a few: Globetrotters Choir Art Athletics Cricket Tennis Rounders When is home time? What do I do at home time? The bell for the end of the day is at 3.30pm. If you walk home, you are expected to walk home sensibly, still wearing your full uniform (including your tie and blazer). Use safe crossing places and have respect for other pedestrians. If you are being collected by car, cross the car park (at the front of the building) to the collection point using the zebra crossing. If you catch a bus, you will be shown where to wait. Again, full uniform should still be worn. Students travelling by bus or train must have a pass. What do I do if I am feeling ill or have a problem during the school day? If you are feeling ill in a lesson, you should tell your teacher who will decide what you should do. Mrs Wood is always available to chat with you if you have a problem during the day (for example, you have forgotten something, you have fallen out with your friends, you re not sure where you should be etc). What if I have a different question? If you have another question or worry that has not been answered in this booklet, you can contact the College on: 01947 602406 or post@ccwhitby.co.uk or visit us anytime, ring to make an appointment.
These are some comments from our current Year 7 students. One of the best things about my first year at College has been the community project, where we helped clean the beach and explore many parts of Whitby. Lexie At first the school seemed huge and intimidating but now it just feels small and homely. Grace I have enjoyed the school year because the teachers are really fun and kind it is a really good school. Oscar It s easy to make new friends and it feels very homely. Isabella One of the best things at College this year was the camping trip at Commondale. Leo I love Caedmon because everyone is kind and helpful. My favourite lesson is Art because I learn how to make creative new things. Ellie I like the lessons. I like my friends and I got to make new friends. There are good clubs.
