A. Setting Up for Calibration of Horizontal Lines, Plumb, and Down Beam 1. Use targets with 1/8 scale to check level. 2. Place target at 60ft away (far field target). If space is limited, place target closer to the tool. The target needs to be scaled according to the distance from the tool. 3. Place a 2nd target approx. 3ft (1m) away from the tool (near field target). (Fig. A- 1) 1st 2nd 60ft Tool Fig. A-1 3ft 4. Use a level platform to set the tool on. (Fig. A-2) Fig. A-2 5. Place a 6 diameter adjustable mirror above the tool for plumb up calibration check. (Fig. A-3) 6 Dia. Fig. A-3 2/18
6. Place an adjustable mirror below the tool for plumb down calibration check. (Fig. A-4) Fig. A-4 7. Place a target twice the scale of the main beam target for plumb up beam at 60 ft away from tool. (Fig. A-5) 1/8 in Plumb Target Fig. A-5 1/4 in 8. Place a target with 0.08 scale for down beam at 4.5ft away from tool. (Fig. A-6).08.04 Fig. A-6 3/18
B. Setting Up for Vertical Line Calibration 1. On a 20ft high wall, place 1 st target 20ft away from tool. Place 2 nd target 10ft above the 1 st target. Place 3 rd target 20ft above the 1 st target. (Fig. B-1, B-2) 3rd 2nd 20ft 10ft Tool 20ft Fig. B-1 1 st Fig. B-2 2. Align three targets using a plumb bob hanging in front of the targets. (Fig. B-3) Fig. B-3 3. The scale on 3 rd target is 0.058 inches (1.5mm) to be in calibration. 4. The scale on 2 nd target is 0.047 inches (1.2mm) to be in calibration. 5. The vertical line is always place at the center of bottom target. 4/18
6. Place a camera in each target and connect to a monitor to easily view the line on the target. (Fig. B-4, B-5) Fig. B-4 Fig. B-5 C. Setting Up for Square Calibration 1. Use a theodolite mounted to an adjustable height tripod to check the square left and right beams. (Fig. C-1) Fig. C-1 2. To setup targets, mark the down reference point of theodolite, mark the level reference point at zero position, and mark another level reference point at 90 degree from zero position. (Fig. C-2) Target 1 90 Target 2 Theodolite Fig. C-2 5/18
D. Checking Level Line Calibration 1. Set tool on the level platform. Center down beam on stage. (Fig. D-1) Fig. D-1 2. Point one of the horizontal lines to center of the near field target. (Fig. D-2) Near Field Target Fig. D-2 3. Adjust height of stage until the line is on center of target. (Fig. D-3) Fig. D-3 4. Rotate and point tool to the far field target. (Fig. D-4) 6/18
Far Field Target Fig. D-4 5. Verify if center of beam is 1/8 within the target (± 40 asec). (Fig. D-5) 40 40 Fig. D-5 6. Rotate tool until ends of line appear on target. Verify if beams are 1/8 within the target. Intermittently cover one end of line and verify if the lines are overlapping within 40 asec. Fig. D-6 and Fig. D-7 Fig. D-6 Fig. D-7 7. Repeat until all horizontal lines have been checked. 7/18
E. Checking Plumb Up (Intersection of Lines) Calibration 1. Center down beam on stage. (Fig. E-1) Fig. E-1 2. Adjust mirror until up beam is on center of plumb target. (Fig. E-2) Plumb Up Mirror Tool Plumb Down Fig. E-2 3. Rotate tool 180 degrees from initial position while maintaining down beam on reference target. (Fig. E-3) Plumb Up Mirror Fig. E-3 Tool Plumb Beam 4. Verify if up beam is within the ¼ radius of target. Fig. E-4 shows a plumb beam 1/8 inches off from center of target. Since the mirror is adjusted to point the 8/18
beam to the center of target, rotating the tool 180 degrees from initial position will place the beam ¼ away from center of target. 0 1/4 in Tool Fig. E-4 F. Checking Plumb Down Beam Calibration 1. Set tool on a level platform (Fig. F-1). Adjust mirror until down beam is on center of target. (Fig. F-2) Fig. F-1 Fig. F-2 2. Rotate tool 180 degrees from initial position while maintaining up beam on reference target. (Fig. F-3) Up Beam Tool Down Beam Mirror Fig. F-3 9/18
3. Verify if down beam is within the 0.08 radius of target at 4.5ft away. (Fig. F-4) Fig. F-4 G. Checking Vertical Line Calibration 1. Center down beam on stage. (Fig. G-1) Fig. G-1 2. Rotate tool until the vertical line is lined up with Bottom targets (use as reference). (Fig. G-2) CENTER BOTTOM TOP Fig. G-2 3. Verify if vertical line straightness is 1/8 within the target. Repeat until all vertical lines are checked. 10/18
H. Checking Square Calibration 1. Place tool on a level stage. (Fig. H-1) Fig. H-1 2. Place the down beam on the down reference mark. (Fig. H-2) Fig. H-2 3. Rotate tool until center of the vertical line is aligned to reference 0 on target 1. (Fig. H-3) Target 1 Fig. H-3 11/18
4. Check the second vertical line if it is within +/- 1/8 from center of the square target. (Fig. H-4) Target 2 Fig. H-4 5. Repeat step 1 thru 4 until all squares are checked. I. Removing Housing from Core 1. Using a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the three screws that secure the housing. (Fig. I-1) Fig. I-1 2. Carefully lift the housing up. (Fig. I-2) Fig. I-2 12/18
3. Turn on the power with horizontal and two vertical lines on. Carefully disconnect the wire connector from the control board and set the housing aside. (Fig. I-3) (Fig. I-3) J. Adjusting Vertical Line (Straightness) Back to Calibration 1. Set core on a level stage. Use 1.5mm Hex screwdriver for adjustment. 2. If the vertical line is toward the right side. (Fig. J-1) Adjust the top screw clockwise (tighten) in order to move the line to the left. Note: turn screw slightly since adjustment is very sensitive. Fig. J-1 3. If the screw is too tight, you will have to slightly loosen (counter clockwise) the screw that is on the opposite side. Fig. I-2 13/18
4. Adjust until the line is 1/8 within the target. Repeat the above steps until the remaining vertical lines are within specification. 5. Calibration of square needs to be verified after adjusting vertical line straightness. K. Adjusting Horizontal Line (Level) Back to Calibration 1. Set core on a level stage. Use 1.5mm Hex screwdriver for adjustment. 2. If left side of horizontal line is higher, adjust the center screw clockwise (tighten) to lower the line and vice versa. If the screw is too tight, you will have to slightly loosen (counter clockwise) the screw on the opposite side. (Fig. K-1) Note: turn screw slightly since adjustment is very sensitive. Fig. K-1 3. If center portion of the horizontal line is higher in the far field target, slightly loosen the 2 top screws and tighten the 2 bottom screws Fig. K-2. 14/18
4. If center portion of the horizontal line is lower in the far field target, slightly loosen the 2 bottom screws and tighten the 2 tops screws Fig. K-3. L. Adjusting Down Beam Back to Calibration 1. Set core on a level stage. Use a 1.2mm Hex screwdriver for adjustment. 2. Observe the location of down beam. When down beam is at the lower position (Fig. L-1), rotate tool back to initial position and turn screw in clockwise direction to bring the beam downward (Fig. L-2). Readjust mirror until beam is at center of target. Rotate tool 180 degree and recheck beam position. Make more adjustment until beam is within specification. Note: turn screw slightly since adjustment is very sensitive. Fig. L-1 Fig. L-2 15/18
M. Adjusting Plumb Beam Back to Calibration 1. Set core on a level stage. Use 1.5mm Hex screwdriver for adjustment. 2. Plumb adjustment is similar to vertical adjustment. Only make small adjustment at a time on both vertical lines from opposite ends (ex. V1 and V3 or V2 and V4) (Fig. M-1). Misalignment of the line from two opposite ends will create double line (Fig. M-2). Note: turn screw slightly since adjustment is very sensitive. V1 Double Line V4 V2 V3 Fig. M-1 Fig. M-2 N. Adjusting Square Back to Calibration 1. Use 1.5mm Hex screwdriver for adjustment. 2. Vertical line toward the right side angle between LD1 and LD 2 is acute (< 90 ) & angle between LD 2 & LD3 is obtuse (>90 ). (Fig. N-1) LD 1 < 90 LD 2 >90 Fig. N-1 LD 3 3. Loosen (counter clockwise) LD2 screw and tighten the opposite side of the screw in order to steer the line back to the left side. (Fig. N-2) Note: turn screw slightly since adjustment is very sensitive. 16/18
LD1 LD2 LD2 LD3 Fig. N-2 O. Placing Housing Back in Core 1. Install wire connector back on control board. (Fig. O-1) Fig. O-1 2. Carefully put housing back on the core. (Fig. O-2) Make sure that wires are not pinched. Fig. O-2 17/18
3. Align the screw holes and install the three screws back onto the housing with a T5 Torx screwdriver. (Fig. O-3) Fig. O-3 18/18
