Domain 4.0 Manipulating Images Using Adobe Photoshop CS5 Domain 4 focuses on the many methods used to manipulate images in Photoshop, both in a destructive and nondestructive manner. In this domain, you will review how to improve selections, work with color correction, and apply filters. 5 5
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement Marching ants is the term used for an active selection. 6 6
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Selection Commands 7 7 All Selects everything on the active layer Deselect Removes the selection Reselect Reactivates the previous selection Inverse Reverses the selection to the opposite of what is currently selected Copying and Cutting a Selection You can cut, copy, or paste a selection, as in other applications.
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Working with Selections 8 8 In the Select<Save Selection option, you can name the selection, save the selection in the current document or in a new document, and add the current selection to a previously saved selection, known as a channel. View it in the Channels palette, and load the selection by Select<Load Selection. The refine edge option uses truer edge technology to improve selections.
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Modifying Selections An edge halo, also called fringing or matting, are the fringe pixels in the background that are difficult to isolate and remove. (Contrast, Shift Edge in Refine Edge option) Touch-Up Brushes The retouching tools include a set of brushes that remove imperfections in images. (Domain 3) Quick Mask Allows you to paint to refine selection using black and white paint with the brush and the eraser. 9 9
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Exercise: Saving Selections In the source files under Domain 4, open the bird.psd file. Using your choice of selection tools, make a selection around the bird only. Now, let s go to PSD Exercise: Making a Quick Mask Restore the bird.psd to its original state by History. Make a quick selection in the photo. Now, let s go to PSD and use the Quick Mask 10
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Taking Measurements To measure areas of an image, you can use tools and commands available on the Analysis menu. 11
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Compositing Images Compositing an image combines multiple images into a single image. Use feathering to blur the edge of the selection and use anti-aliasing to smooth the edges between multiple images. Need to feather after the selection has been made? Go to Select<Modify<Feather. 12
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Batch Processing If you have many images to which you would like to apply the same techniques, you can use batch processing to repeat repetitive actions automatically. If you want to repeat certain actions using multiple images, you can turn an action into a droplet. 13
Objective 4.2 Use Photoshop Guides and Rulers Guides and grids are useful when you need to align elements such as text in the document. 14
Objective 4.2 Use Photoshop Guides and Rulers Exercise: Working with Guides Clicking and Dragging guides from Rulers. New Guides from View<New Guide. Moving existing Guides. Hiding, Locking, and Clearing Guides. 15
Objective 4.3 Transform Images Photoshop allows you to transform entire images, individual layers, or specific selections. You can alter the appearance of an object by scaling, rotating, skewing, distorting, changing the perspective, and flipping it horizontally or vertically. 16
Objective 4.3 Transform Images 17 Free Transform gives you the ability to change horizontal, vertical, or both at the same time. It also lets you do many of the other Transforms: Constrain proportions by holding Shift. Rotate at a corner handle. Reset center point with Option+Click or Alt+Click (PC). To freely move a handle, hold down Cmd or Ctrl (PC). To skew, hold down Shift+Cmd or Shift+Ctrl (PC). To shift the perspective, hold Cmd+Option+Shift or Ctrl+Alt+Shift (PC).

Opacity blends a layer with the layer below it (including the Layer Effects). Fill affects the fill opacity of the pixels on the active layer, but does NOT make any changes to any Layer Effects. 20
Objective 4.3 Transform Images (cont.) Exercise: Layer Modes Restore your image to its original position, or open a new one. Next, open the flower file. In the flower file, load the Flower selection (channel) and Copy the selection. In the other file, Paste the flower. Now, back to PSD to see how Opacity and Fill work! 21
