Vision Inspection Systems NELA Brüder Neumeister GmbH Your Worldwide Partner for Automatic Optical Inspection and Sorting Systems see. control. automate.

HISTORICAL MILESTONES 1938 Ernst and Bernhard Neumeister found NELA Brüder Neumeister in Lahr. NELA makes a name for itself in the graphic arts industry with the manufacturing of light-metal fillets for book printers. 1999 A second company building is officially inaugurated in order to expand production. 2000 NELA USA is founded through the acquisition of a major competitor in Minnesota. At the same time a new logistics, service and training center is completed at the headquarters in Lahr, Germany. 2008 NELA USA River Falls, WI 1988 NELA celebrates its 50th anniversary 50 years, in which NELA established a brand name for precision machines and began to revolutionize the pre-press sector with its optical alignment and register systems. 2006 The guiding principles see. control. automate. are formulated to express NELA s strengths and underline the progression in image processing and automation. Through the acquisition of an optical inspection company, the new independent NELA division Vision Inspection Systems emerges. 2009 2010 2011 The first inspection system is installed Asia. 2012 The application of NELA Inspection Systems is now extended to allow for the inspection and measurement of metal and plastic parts. 2014 Beside 2D and 3D technologies for surface inspection, NELA also develops measuring technologies and algorithms which set new standards in precision. In addition NELA launches a new inspection system tailored to the needs of micro O-Ring inspection. NELA worldwide NELA Germany Lahr, Schwarzwald Today the NELA group, with NELA Brüder Neumeister in Germany, NELA USA and NELA Asia, is a third generation family owned business and has more than 200 employees worldwide. Innovation and technological leadership are the drive and obligation of the NELA group. NELA ASIA Fort Gardens, Singapur The first inspection systems are installed in the USA and in Europe. NELA launches its first inspection system with two glass tables which is able to inspect different types of parts simultaneously. 2013 NELA celebrates not only its 75th anniversary but also further successes in the field of Vision Inspection; In-house developments like statistical process control and dynamic contour tracking help to achieve a previously unequalled degree of flexibility for all NELA inspection systems. 2015 NELA continues to grow and develop its range of high-speed inspection systems. In consideration of your inspection requirements we design and manufacture inspection solutions which guarantee you 100% production reliability. Fully automatic inspection and sorting systems are multipurpose. They can inspect parts of various shapes of rubber, silicone, plastic, PTFE, metal, ceramic, sinter and compound material parts.

NELA INSPECTION SYSTEMS Glass table system with one glass table Glass table system with two glass tables Belt system Rotary indexer table A single glass table system is the ideal solution for parts which cannot or must not be turned for inspection. NELA conceived the double glass table system for parts which must be turned during inspection. The belt system has been designed for inspection and sorting of micro parts. A rotary indexer table is applicable for rubber parts with high inspection requirements. After the inspection on the first glass table, every part is turned and is placed on a second glass table. Therefore, both sides of the part are inspected under the same conditions. Double glass table systems are equipped with an in-house developed NELA part side recognition feature. It detects the position of each part at the first sensor and passes this information on to all following sensors. Thus parts with different sides can be inspected precisely. Different types of parts can be inspected simultaneously upon request. The micro parts are positioned very precisely on the belt and remain in the same position during the inspection process. Therefore, no additional movement is necessary such as the transfer to a second glass table. This set-up is necessary since micro parts tend to jump easily. In order to inspect both sides the parts are turned in a flip-over unit. This insures a 100% inspection for micro parts. A rotation of each part allows for multiple high resolution shots. The parts are positioned in pallets, which feature guide and drive rollers for a 360 inspection. By deforming the parts in the pallets, even hidden defects can be found. Depending on the individual inspection task, either a stretch- or squeeze technique is used The parts are automatically positioned on a rotating glass table. The sensors (camera and illumination) are mounted above the glass table. The inspection of the bottom side of the part can be made from below through the glass table. Pictures each show a possible machine design

NELA SENSORS Geometry control Surface defect inspection Dimension Defect inspection top and bottom side A transmitted light process with a telecentric lens is used to detect geometrical parameters such as outer and inner diameter and edge length. The image processing software analyzes the shadowing effect of the part and determines the exact measurements. Topside and Bottom side surface sensors detect all visible defects, impurities and material problems on the top or bottom surface. The lighting can be configured individually resulting in optimal illumination of the part. This guarantees inspection results with maximum precision. Height control and height measurement Defect inspection outer and inner side The height control sensor detects the limit of the part s height using a laser measuring procedure. The height measurement sensor measures the exact height of the part with micrometer accuracy. Just as with the dimension sensor, a transmitted light process with a telecentric lens is used. Outside and inside sensors detect all visible defects, impurities and material problems on the outer and inner surface of the part. 6 to 8 high-resolution single cameras are arranged in an array in order to guarantee a 100% inspection of the outer and inner sides. The lighting can be configured individually, leading to optimal illumination of the part. This guarantees inspection results with maximum precision. 3D precision surface contour inspection The 3D sensor uses a combination of lasers and cameras to create a precise surface contour profile. The laser shows a line on the part and any variations of the surface lead to a deviation of the laser beam which is detected by the camera. A rate of up to 40,000 scans per second can be reached. Outside Sensor Examples of defects in rubber parts: Pores, holes, breaches in the area of the parting line, material impurities, flow marks, indentation, cracks, notches and burrs Examples of defects in dimensionally stable parts: Pores, holes, chipping, scratches, breaches, cracks, notches and burrs Sensor for height measurement Exemplary 3D surface contour profile
