Mr. Darren DeSilva lead a workshop focusing on Action Sports. Part 1 of the workshop was a lecture covering basics of Action Sport Photography. Part 2 of the workshop was a hands on field trip during the Tour of Oman 2013. Students were able to experience shooting a high profile event, and practice shooting Action Sports. Within the Community Graduating Class of 2012 Exhibition The Graduating Exhibition is an important element of an art student s higher education which is a ritual followed by universities around the world. It is an opportunity for them to introduce their work to the public and hear feedback, from the community. It forces them to speak about their work beyond technical and aesthetic qualities, in a critical way as well as take criticism. It is an introduction of themselves and their work to professionals within the advertising, journalism and publication markets. Finally, it is a celebration of their years of studying and the growth they have made as artists. The Photography Department was very pleased to organize the graduating 2012 class exhibition which was titled Visual Stories. The exhibition was held at the Omani Society of Fine Arts, Photography Club, in Azaiba. The exhibition featured the students final projects within the department, as well as work from the lecturers. We look forward to the 2013 graduating class exhibition which we hope to organize next September. Event Photos By Mohammed Al Ajmi Higher College of Technology p.6

Within the Community Claude Le-Ahn The HCT Photography Department was given a rare opportunity to meet with renowned French photographer Claude Le-Ahn during her visit to Oman to take part in the Muscat Art Festival. The private showing and Q& A session was hosted by Bait Al Baranda in the Opera Galleria. Event Photos By Mohammed Al Ajmi Thank you to the students, alumni and staff who participated in the 100x100 Charity Exhibition to raise money for the National Cancer Society within Oman. Nearly all of our images sold and it was a great way to show our department s commitment to community involvement. p.7

Within the Community Jebel Shams Field Trip The time-lapse portion of Advanced Photography 2 proved again to be a highlight of the course. Students took several trips to Muttrah and 1 trip to Jebel Shams to capture the movement of Oman through the art of time-lapse photography. Congratulations to Hafsa Al Rawahi on being chosen as one of 4 Omani students who will travel to the USA this summer for the intense SUSI media training program organized through the US state department. We know you will do an amazing job in the training course and this will be an opportunity of a lifetime. This is the second year which Photography Department Students have been chosen to participate in the highly competitive program, showing that their hard work is appreciated in professional fields of media. Photos (Right) By Hafsa Al Rawahi Students examine all elements of journalism, including researching, writing, editing, and reporting with particular emphasis on new forms of media. The program underscores the impact of new technologies on journalism, and gives participants new skills such as editing photographs and videos online. Through the internship component of the program, students gain firsthand experience in the field of new media. p.8
