Aster Ralph Gallimore was the first child born to Seaph and Alice Snider Gallimore. Aster was born on 11 September 1921 in Randolph County near Jackson Creek community. The family lived in the Jackson Creek community until Aster's brother, Rex, was born in 1923. Soon after"seaph and Alice Gallimore with their two small sons, Aster and Rex, moved to Julian Avenue in Thomasville. Aster started his schooling in the Thomasville Schools and when his parents moved to Crousetown Road in Denton in 1932, he finished his education at Denton School. As a child, Aster fell in a fireplace and burned his hands. As a result his hands were scared the rest of his life. Aster and a friend, Brink Hunt, went to a friend of Brink's one day. Brink's friend was Polly Ridge. Aster and Polly's meeting was a start of a friendship, romance and a marriage of 44 years. Aster Gallimore and Martha Pauline "Polly" Ridge were married on 29 June 1940 in Danville, Virginia. Polly was born 3 June 1918, the daughter of Stanley William Ridge and Dolly Tysinger. Shortly after their marriage, Aster and Polly went to work on building their new home on Crousetown Road, near Denton. They moved into their new home in March of 1941. Polly still lives at this location today. On 28 April 1941, Aster and Polly were blessed with the arrival of their first son, Ralph William Gallimore. Ralph was named after his father and Grandfather Ridge. Ralph was not only Aster and Polly's first son but he was the first grandchild of Seaph and Alice Gallimore. To make him even more special, Ralph became a fifth generation baby with four other generations living in the family. A picture of the five generations is on page 58. Included in this picture is Elizabeth Metters Skeen, her daughter Mary Ann Skeen Snider, her daughter Alice Snider Gallimore, her son Aster Gallimore and his son Ralph. 69

On 14 December 1941, Aster, Polly and Ralph traveled with Aster's sister, Oleene to York, South Carolina where she married Warren Pierce. In 1943, Aster was drafted in the Navy. He was sent to Bainbridge, Maryland for his basic training and then to Norfolk for additional on the job training. Polly did make two trips to Norfolk to see Aster. While in Norfolk she stayed with her aunt and uncle who resided there. Young Ralph accompanied her on one of the trips.' On 17 December 1946, Aster and Polly's second son, Ronnie Wood Gallimore was born. Ronnie's middle name, Wood, was taken from his paternal grandfather, Seaph Wood Gallimore. During these after the war years, Aster followed his father's footsteps and went to work at Ragan Hosiery Mill. When an opening became available, he joined his Uncle Earl Snider and worked in the maintenance department at Thomasville City Schools., ASTeRS,:~ ~"~'-~J CAB/NeT..<..~ ;j I S OP 4".%Sk:'.~. :JU.r:;.s"_\il -., ~. r:..~j 1;!;~"?:~~1. 0- ';.~_ 1oU.'.! But he loved to work with wood and his main calling in life was carpentry work. He began to take on odd jobs at night and on Saturdays. Polly described Aster as being a workaholic. He was always happiest when working. He soon,'j opened his own very successful carpentry business which he continued the rest of his working career. His carpentry :,] expertise benefited several family members as he helped build his parents beach house in 1954 and brother's Doak home in the 1960's. A third son, Steven Ray Gallimore, was born 29 October 1951. After three sons, the family was blessed with the arrival of a fourth baby, a baby daughter, Kathy Lynn Gallimore, 21 May 1954. Family vacations were important to Aster and he saw to it that his family took at least one vacation each year. Aster preferred the beach, Polly like the mountains so many trips were made to both of these locations. They also made many happy memories on family outings to Happy Lake. Aster, Polly and Kathy made one fun vacation the summer Kathy graduated from high school. They got in Aster's red truck and drove to San Antonio, Texas to visit son Ralph and his family in the Air Force. They took in many sights along the way, in Texas and ~ven drove into Mexico. Everyone liked Aster probably due to the fact he never said anything bad about anyone and he was a very kind-hearted and gentle person. Aster, Polly and family attended many family reunions and get togethers. Aster, like most of the Gallimore men, loved to play Rook and Pinochle and spent many enjoyable hours playing cards. When the food was put on the table you could always count on Polly for a delicious chocolate cake! 70

After several years of declining health. Aster died on 22 October 1984 at age 63. Ralph served over 27 years in the Air Force. On 5 December 1964 he married Coella Gallimore. Coella is the daughter of Starling Emsley Gallimore and Evelyn Roe Hill. Ralph and Coella are now living in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Ralph is employed by Schneider Trucking. They have two married children. Scott married Lisa Goss 23 May 1992. Lisa is the daughter of Archie Bill Goss, Jr. and Angela Diane Johnson. Scott and Lisa have two children, Chandler William and Connor Scott. Starla married Rick Pittarelli 11 October 1997 and they are expecting twins in 2001. Rick is the son of Cosmo Pittarelli and Mary Evelyn Eglott. Ronnie also served his country in the Air Force for four years. On 15March 1969 he married Suzanne Nance. Suzanne is the daughter of J.B. Nance and Coine Ward. Ronnie is employed as a truck driver with Johnson Controls. They have two sons, Derek Wood and Chad Brian. On 31 July 1999 Chad married Vanessa Towery. Vanessa is the daughterof Doug andnancytowery.. Steve followed in the footsteps of both of his brothers and joined the Air Force and like his brother Ralph made a career in the Air Force. On 1 March 1975 he married Denise Lynn Winnslett. They have since divorced. Steve is employed at Brad Farrah Pontiac GMC Nissan in Salisbury. Steve has three children, Steven Brandly, Brandi Jo and Deanne Brooke. Kathy is a.nurse at High Point Hospital. She married Jeff Nance on 9 August 1979.
