FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Enjoy a fun-filled June school holiday at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands Special family package at attractive rate now available Singapore (May 20, 2011) - This June school holiday, visitors to the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands will enjoy a series of complimentary activities planned for both the young and old. Revolving around the three travelling exhibitions - Van Gogh Alive the exhibition, Dalí: Mind of a Genius the exhibition and Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds the diverse program line-up includes workshops on ceramics, making of shrinky dinks and skateboarding performances. Activities planned for the June school holiday are free of charge to visitors who visit the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands. Visitors will be able to join in the activities and possibly leave the museum with a handmade souvenir from one of the many workshops planned. To cater to families visiting the ArtScience Museum, an attractive family package has also been introduced. Mr. Tom Zaller, Director, ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands, said, The ArtScience Museum is committed to bringing in the best exhibitions from around the world all year round. Not only will visitors of all ages be able to enjoy the exhibitions on show, they will also have the opportunity to go on a learning journey through different media be it art, music, film, or skateboarding. In addition to all the educational activities lined up, families who visit the ArtScience Museum will now be able to enjoy greater value for their money. A special package price is now available for a family of four. The family package is priced at S$80 for a group of 4. This package allows families to save up to S$40 in total admission costs. The family package is valid until 31 October 2011.

For families and children of all ages Targeted at children of all ages, families can learn more about ArtScience through Baking Time! where participants are able to create shrinky dinks, shrinkable plastic sheets that can be customized to form key chains and other trinkets. Participants will get a hands-on experience in creating these shrinky dinks themselves and bring them home as souvenirs. They can also create their own creations like Van Gogh paper collages inspired by the master painter s artwork at the ArtScientist. To learn how to create ceramic replicas of certain artifacts displayed in the ArtScience Museum, the museum is organizing a ceramics workshop led by an art instructor, together with the pupils of Huamin Primary School. Young aspiring artists can learn to Paint like Van Gogh in a workshop that will be conducted by students from Pioneer Junior College. Visitors will be able to paint the copy paintings of Van Gogh s work on small canvases that will be provided. Visitors who want to express their surrealistic talents will be able to participate in a tape sculpture workshop where scotch tape will be used to make translucent sculptures. This workshop will be led by students from Holy Innocent s High School who will use life-size tape sculptures to illustrate ideas on Surrealism. Visitors can then try their hands on tape-casting smaller objects which they can bring home. For music enthusiasts, students from Maris Stella High School Chinese Orchestra will showcase a series of solo and ensemble performances. After their performances, the students will share their experiences of playing their musical instruments and Chinese music. Visitors will have an opportunity to try out the various musical instruments. Another music workshop will teach young children how to use their voice as a tool to create and dissect imagery of Van Gogh s paintings, and bring out the sounds in his masterpieces. A kid s music theatre specialist will lead the young visitors in exploring their voices as an instrument for sound scoring. For older children, teenagers and adults Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds introduces to visitors for the first time the existence of a direct maritime trade route from China to the Persian Gulf and beyond. Visitors who want to learn more about the ceramics found in the exhibition will be able to participate in a game designed by Pioneer Junior College titled Middle Kingdom Race board game. Visitors will learn about the geography of modern China in a fun and engaging way. They will discover the geological position of the provinces that produced the Tang treasures and the roles these provinces play in modern China. For the first time in the ArtScience Museum, a skateboarding performance by Mark Ong will be held within the gallery that houses Van Gogh Alive the Exhibition. Mark Ong, who has been skating for 20 years, will be skateboarding amidst the artistically choreographed musical and visual sequence of the exhibition, interacting and exploring the space that projects the gigantic images of Van Gogh s artworks.

The recently launched Dalí: Mind of a Genius - The Exhibition comprises over 250 Dalí artworks giving visitors a glimpse into the surreal mind of Salvador Dalí, one of the 20th century s best-known surrealist artists. For visitors who wish to learn more about the genius of Dalí, the ArtScience Museum will be playing the award-winning film Dalí Dimension: Decoding the Mind of a Genius. The movie retraces Salvador Dalí s obsession for science, which lasted his entire life. The film features interviews with Dalí in which he speaks about his passion for science together with previously unseen footage of Dalí with scientists. The Dalí Dimension reveals a completely unknown aspect of one of the most important figures of the 20th Century, and gives new insight to interpret some of Dalí s masterpieces. This movie also demonstrates the outcome when art and science combine to create masterpieces that are truly breathtaking. Boasting an iconic lotus-inspired design, the world s first ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands is poised to be the heart of the growing ArtScience movement.
