CPT s prgramming agenda is t prduce wrk that is utside the mainstream, ffering a much brader range f wrk available t the Cleveland public and expanding the impact and riginality f theatre acrss the cuntry. CPT strives t make wrk that is excellent, extrardinary and natinally cmpetitive. Our new play develpment is based n ur years f experience, cmmunity input and key principles f: fcusing n artists; valuing diversity f apprach, aesthetics and perspective; and balancing impact with investment. We envisin CPT as a natinally recgnized hub fr the develpment f new theatre that is extrardinary, edgy and relevant. We hpe t be a mdel fr nurturing lcal talent in similar sized markets, the mst regarded cultivatr f new theatre fr Cleveland audiences, a labratry fr prmising research and investigatin and a launcher f natinally significant new plays. Catapult Summary The mst extensive f CPT develpment prgrams, Catapult fcuses n select prjects that we believe have a high likelihd t be fully prduced by CPT in the future. This prgram is intended t mve prjects frm whatever pint they are at, t being prductin ready. Each prcess will be ttally custmized t the wrk. Prjects may receive a series f readings, significant rehearsal time, wrkshp prductins and/r invitatinal shwings. Playwright/Creatrs f Catapult prjects will receive the Nrd Family Fundatin Fellwship and, while develping their wrk, will play an active rle in the life f the theatre.

Catapult Descriptin Catapult is abut striving t advance a prject t the pint f being prductin-ready and is intended t engage with prjects that are at different stages f creatin frm early cncept t cmpleted script. As part f the selectin prcess, we will wrk with the artist t create a plan fr develpment f the prject. Catapult prjects are likely t need specialized develpment wrk, but ther CPT new wrk develpment series will be available t Catapult artists as tls. Fr example a shw might have a partial reading r shwing in Entry Pint and then have a series f fllw-up readings later in the seasn; r a prject may be in rehearsal fr weeks at CPT, with sme private shwings and then culminate as part f the Test Flight series. That being said, it is pssible that sme prjects will develp ttally independent f ur ther series. Cleveland Public Theatre will: Select 1-3 prjects fr Catapult each seasn, with the understanding that the prcess f Catapult may span ver mre than ne seasn. Award the playwright f a selected Catapult prject the Nrd Family Fundatin Fellwship, which includes a $2,000 cntract and free attendance (plus ne) t all CPT shws during the fellwship. Prvide rehearsal space, as available, thrughut the perid f the prject (including wrk by the Nrd Fellw unrelated t Catapult). Prvide all prductin and presenting supprt fr Catapult public shwings. Prvide ne staff ally r mentr fr the prject and the Catapult Artist. Invest $2,500 in prductin csts which may be used t pay artists fees, implement designs, purchase specialty equipment, etc. Ttal estimated per prject value frm CPT (including all direct csts, ccupancy and cash) is $15,000. Catapult Artist/Nrd Fellw will: Prvide artistic cntent. Cntent will be riginal and must be in develpment, Prject cannt have had a previus full prductin. Cntent must be wned by artist r the artist must have authrity t use material (in case f adaptatin r inclusin f ther cntent). Attend a majrity f pening nights at CPT and play an active rle in the life f the theatre, which includes attending artist meetings, vlunteering when apprpriate and being a great ambassadr fr CPT thrughut the fellwship. Enter int an agreement with CPT related t subsequent prductins that will stipulate crediting CPT. CPT hlds a right-f-first-refusal t prduce Catapult prjects in the future.

Selectin Prcess and Criteria The selectin prcess fr Catapult has fur runds. 1. CPT staff assesses prject/artist readiness. All prjects that we feel meet basic criteria will be mved t the secnd rund. 2. Prpsals will be read by three reviewers: an ut-f-twn artist, directr, assciate r literary manager at a theatre fcusing n new wrk, a lcal playwright (wrking in a similar prcess as applicant i.e. scripted, devised, cnceived, etc.), and ne CPT staff member. Prjects will be ranked and receive aggregated cmments frm the readers. The highest ranked prpsals will then mve t third rund. 3. The third rund will invlve an interview between CPT artistic staff t discuss the prpsed prject, artistic gals (bth persnal and prject related), past experiences, etc. Final selectin will be made by Executive Artistic Directr Raymnd Bbgan. 4. The final rund will cnsist f selected applicant(s) meeting with CPT t review a draft plan and determine if bth parties have a similar viewpint and can agree t an verall prcess fr develpment. We are seeking prjects that have great ptential t mve tward a full prductin n CPT s stage. They will be ranked n their ptential quality, artistry and aesthetic fit fr CPT. CPT will als evaluate prpsals based n the enthusiasm abut wrking with CPT leadership in develping the prject. Advice t Applicants Catapult is nt intended t serve all new prjects. This prgram is fr artists wh have a hunger fr feedback and guidance and wh regard CPT as a develper f new wrks. Catapult will fcus n wrks that are in direct alignment with CPT s missin and prgramming agenda. Applicants will want t be clear abut hw their prject fits with CPT and with this particular apprach t new play develpment. Scripting playwrights will need t either have a strng track recrd r have a draft f a script that is very cmpelling. Devising playwrights will need t demnstrate their artistic merit and be clear abut the prcess and intended prduct. The experience f the playwright in devising wrk will be extremely imprtant, as well as a clear sense f scpe and theme. Catapult may include perfrmance-based installatin wrk and ther nn-traditinal perfrmance frms. Experience wrking in thse frms will be critical fr selectin. Answer emails quickly and prfessinally.
