the history of abc What is Steel Wool? Steel Wool is an array of fine strands of steel padded together to produce a scouring fabric. The steel fibres are produced through a drawing and cutting process, with different grades being created through variation of speed and cutting tools on an automated line. After being cut and drawn the wool is then passed through either a padding process, or packaged on reels or in hanks for ease of sale. What makes ABC Steel Wool the Best Industrial Wool? Not all Steel Wools are created Equal! Some brands of Steel Wool are produced using a single strand diameter for each grade. This is a very economical way to produce steel wool but does not lead to the best quality of product. Using a linear fibre pattern produces a wool that flattens quickly and clogs easily as abraded particles are trapped in the fibres. ABC Steel Wool uses a custom designed blend of very slightly varying fibre diameters, producing an integrated matrix of wool. This provides more body and allows particles to clear the work surface, giving longer wool life and a better cleaning or polishing finish. 6
