Duplin County Employee Newsletter November 2014 Mosaic Highlights CONGRATS SYMPATHY Manager s Message NEW EMPLOYEES BIRTHDAYS RETIREES Dear Fellow County Employees: On December 1, 2014 the board of Commissioners will experience several changes that I want to acknowledge. Last year, a change is state law created revised commissioner district boundaries and as a result, the Duplin County Board of Commissioners will change from a six-member board to a five-member board. Two-term Commissioner Harold Raynor chose not to run again and the majority of his district will then be represented by Commissioner Kenn Thompson. Mr. Raynor always spoke his mind and did his best to carry out his responsibility to represent the people of his district. Mr. Raynor also overcame some difficult health challenges during his tenure. He always rallied back to health with faithful assurance. Commissioner Smith also chose not to run again due to family obligations that require his attention. As former County Attorney, Mr. Smith came on the board well equipped for his role as Commissioner. He demonstrated an ability to ask questions, make the hard decisions and stand by them. The Commissioners will be hosting a reception to recognize Mr. Raynor and Mr. Smith s for their service and contributions at their November 17 th board meeting. Mr. Smith s district will be represented by incoming Commissioner Dexter Edwards. Mr. Edwards is a farmer and also Production Manager at Murphy Brown, LLC. He is also active in various agricultural and civic organizations. I m sure Mr. Edwards will have questions about each department. Take an opportunity to welcome Mr. Edwards and help him become oriented. Mike Aldridge, County Manager
