about the book Sadie is a small girl with a big imagination. She likes to make and do and be lots of different things. Maybe you re a bit like her? You like to make things out of other things. You sometimes live inside a book. You may be small but your imagination is big. If this sounds like you, you ve come to the right place. this is sara Sara O Leary has wanted to be a writer for as long as she has been a reader, which is a very long time. She s written several works of fiction for adults and is the co-creator with Julie Morstad of the award-winning Henry books: When You Were Small, Where You Came From and When I Was Small. She was named after her grandmother who was nicknamed Sadie. Sara always wanted a little girl to name for her, and so she invented one. Please visit 123oleary.blogspot.com for more information. this is julie Julie Morstad has always loved to make things, especially pictures. She is the author and illustrator of How To, which was a finalist for the Governor General s Award for Illustration, and has illustrated a number of other books for children, including Julia, Child and Sara O Leary s Henry stories. Please visit www.juliemorstad.com for more information. by sara o leary illustrated by julie morstad

FOX MASK You may have noticed Sadie s beautiful fox mask on the cover of the book. Here s how you can make one! What You Need: Printer String Mask to use as a template Scissors Brown paper (optional) Black and white markers (optional) Print in color and carefully cut out the template. Don t forget to cut the eyeholes and the marked spots for the string. Measure out two 12-inch pieces of string. Tie one end of the string to the hole under the ears. Repeat on the other side. To wear, place mask over face by aligning the eyeholes and tie the two open ended strings to the back of your head. If you don t have a color printer, simply print this in black-and-white. Cut the template out and trace on brown paper. Color in the fox s features with the black and white markers. Cut the mask out and tie the strings on. by sara o leary illustrated by julie morstad

BUNTING Who doesn t love bunting? It makes any space festive and helps make every event special! Make one to hang in your bedroom, living room, kitchen, library, school locker, fence, tree... the decorating possibilities are endless. What You Need: Printer Paper String Scissors Tape First, you ll need to make a template or outline. Using a simple word program on your computer, type out THIS IS (fill in your name) in uppercase. Change the size of the font as you will want it large enough to cut out and be visible from afar! Or you might want to do a letter per 8.5 x 11 page. Print the letters out and cut them out. Lay out the words on the table or floor. Then, roll out the string so that it is long enough to fit all of your letters. It s also a good idea to leave about 15 inches of string on both sides so that you can tie it to something. Tape each letter to the string. Don t forget to space out your words. Finally, cut the string and hang your newly made bunting! You can also do this with construction paper. Start by cutting out these letters on the following pages and use the stencil to trace on colored paper. by sara o leary illustrated by julie morstad

P PER DOLLS More decorations, you say? Well, these paper dolls will go wonderfully with your bunting. What You Need: Printer Paper Pencil Scissors Tape 1 Cut an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper in half lengthwise. Evenly fold your piece of paper three times so that you end up with four panels. 2 Print out the template and trace the doll image on the front panel. Make sure the arms go all the way to the edges, otherwise you ll be cutting out four individual dolls. template 3 Flatten the folded paper and carefully cut around the doll. When you unfold the paper, it will reveal four dolls. You can make as many as you like and link them together with tape. by sara o leary illustrated by julie morstad

FLOWERS What You Need: Make a beautiful meadow for your fox family or a bouquet for your family and friends. Sheets of tissue paper Green pipe cleaners or other flexible wire Pencil Scissors Tape 1 Stack the sheets of tissue paper together (we find using 12 sheets works best) and fold the paper accordion-style. 3 Separate each layer of tissue paper, pulling out the petals. Leave a small pocket of space in the middle as the center of each flower. 2 Fold the sheets in half, end-to-end, then wrap pipe cleaners or floral wire over the center of the folded tissue papers, twisting tightly. Cut the folded end and round the edges. 4 Group tissue paper flowers together in an arrangement, and add leaves (cut them out of green paper) for an instant bloom of happiness! by sara o leary illustrated by julie morstad
