Time to spend with special friends. Dear Children The much awaited summer vacation is here again. Yes, it s a break from studies, early mornings and tests. It s also the time for fun, watching television, visiting new places and meeting your near and dear ones. Remember, most importantly, it is the time to inculcate good reading habits. So read plenty of books and newspaper on a regular basis. Work on vocabulary enhancement. Pick up new hobbies. Watch informative programmes on National Geographic and Animal Planet. Work on building up your strengths. Don t forget to lend a helping hand at home. Have a fun filled vacation!!

Give a twist to the ending by creating an interesting story of your own using the characters you have selected in a different backdrop and setting. Keep the story limited to 150-200 words. Give a title to your story, illustrate it and write it down on an A-4 size sheet. 2) Make a comic strip of four equal sized frames (refer to the sample shown in the image) based on the most interesting plot/scene from an English story book which you have read (of any famous author like- Enid Blyton, Ruskin Bond, Roald Dahl, J.K. Rowling etc.). Create your own dialogues for the comic strip.

3) Create a pictionary with 20 new words. Prepare the journal using A-4 sized coloured sheets. Write each new word in it and draw or paste a picture of it. Also write one synonym and one antonym (if any) against it. 4) People Poems Write any one poem about your parents. The poem can be in the form of an acrostic, in which the first letter of each line begins with a letter of the person s name. The lines consist of words or phrases describing the person's characteristics. Another type of poem is the diamante, which takes its name from the diamond-shaped form it makes. Here's the formula Person s name Two adjectives to describe the person The ing words related to the subject Four nouns that describe the person Three verbs that tell how the person acted or felt Two adjectives to describe the person Person s last name

1. A tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle that is still used today by both children and adults. When tangrams are used in storytelling, the storyteller arranges the tans to show the shape of a character in the tale. As new characters or story elements are introduced, the puzzle pieces are rearranged to represent the new character or element. A tangram begins with a square, which is then cut into seven standard pieces. Each piece is called a tan. The tangram puzzle is made up of seven pieces: five triangles, a parallelogram, and a square. Most often a first encounter with the puzzle involves being presented with the seven pieces and being asked to put it together to form a square. Watch the following video titled- A Sage s journey: The story of tangrams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5mc-dkylfi Now make your own tangram puzzles according to the template shown, and arrange them to form shapes of 6 different animals. Paste them on an A-3 size sheet.

2. Find out the lengths of the following rivers: - Mississippi, Nile, Congo, Ganga, Amazon, Colorado, Danube, Yangtze, Indus and Missouri. Present the information neatly in a tabular form. a. Arrange the names of the rivers in ascending order of the lengths. b. Which is the longest river of these? Paste a picture of the river. c. Which is the shortest of these rivers? Which sea or ocean does this river meet? d. Find out the countries through which the longest and shortest rivers flow. 3. Pentominoes Pentominoes are made from 5 identical squares, fixed together at their edges. There are 12 altogether. Can you fit all 12 shapes into a larger rectangle, leaving no gaps? Incredibly hard, but there is more than one way! Do the activity in the link given below, then make your own pentominoes and arrange them into a rectangle. Paste both the individual pentominoes and the arranged rectangle neatly on an A-3 Sheet. (Remember, you will need to cut out 2 sets) http://www.mathsphere.co.uk/fun/pents/pents.html
