Guests are welcome and are asked to pay $5.00 at the door. Visit Us on Facebook February Program HST Challenge Conclusion Our Half Square Triangle (HST) Challenge is concluding February 20 th, when prizes will be awarded to three quilters. Members accepting this challenge were asked to create a quilt using any design, pattern or layout they choose just as long as HST s are the main focus of their quilt. There were no size requirements, so you could make this quilt as big, or as small as you wanted. All members are eligible to enter this challenge. So if you re a fast quilter, you still have a few (very few, but still, a few) days left to complete your entry. Reminder: Quilts being entered into this challenge must be completed including backing quilting and binding. Winter Bazaar Cindy Calderwood would like to remind us even though the King City Winter Bazaar is not taking place until November 2018, it s never too early to think about creating items to donate to only annual fund raiser, the King City Winter Bazaar. Charity Quilter s Sew Day Weighted Scarves Those of you that attended the January Guild Meeting may remember LoisMarie Mayer passed around a sample weighted scarf and invited us to join in an effort to make them. Since that time LoisMarie has been in touch with our Charity Committee and together they are planning to focus the February Charity Sew Day on weighted scarf making. These scarves have been found to be very effective when used by children on the autism spectrum. Completed scarves will be donated to Randall Children's Hospital. Please join us on Monday, February 5th starting at 10:30 am at the Sherwood Senior Center located at 21907 SW Sherwood Blvd in Sherwood, OR where our instructorled the focus will be on making weighted scarves. We'll have the scarf-making supplies on hand, so all you need to bring is your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. We would love to make a whole bunch of scarves, get to know more members, and have a fun day. Hope to see you there. Quilts of Valor Sew Day TVQG s next Quilts of Valor sew date will be on Saturday March 3rd at Ace Sew & Vac in Newberg starting at 10:30 am. Please let LoisMarie Mayer know if will be joining us. LoisMarie may be reached by email at lov2kwilt@aol.com. Page 1

NEWSLETTER February 2018 2017 QOV Statistics According to the Quilts of Valor Foundation, here are some 2017 Statistics: All I can say is Wow! Crazy Quilt Group LoisMarie would like to start a crazy quilt group exchange at the guild. To join in you would need to have a block 12" - 14" made of cottons or silk. There are many sites you can Google for information on how to create your block. Then at each meeting we will exchange the blocks. Anything goes...buttons, stitching, beads, etc. We would have this exchange for 8 meetings or so. For more information on this group please reach out to LoisMarie at lov2kwilt@aol.com. UFO Challenge TVQG s UFO challenge is currently underway and will conclude at the October 16, 2018 general meeting. Participants in this challenge are eligible to receive one drawing ticket for each quilt they complete from their UFO list. So the more quilts you finish the better your chances are of winning a prize. Contest prizes will be announced closer to the completion of this challenge, but at least three winners will be chosen by a random drawing. If participating in this contest, bring your completed quilt to any general meeting, present it during the Show and Tell, and be sure to collect a ticket for each of the quilts you are removing from your UFO list. Lost Raffle Supplies If anyone picked up a plastic box with a roll of tickets and other drawing supplies in it at a recent guild meeting, would you be kind enough to let any of the committee chairpersons know and/or bring it with you to the next General Meeting. Thanks a bunch. Tee-Shirt Quilt Workshop We will be having a tee shirt quilt workshop lead by Bonnie Holt soon (date to be set). Please let LoisMarie know if you want to be included in the class.
