Those color digital images that are NOT acceptable in the Nature Digital Projection Division may be acceptable as Color General Digital Projection images. Those depicting cultivated plants, domestic animals or pets, still-life studies, mounted specimens, museum pieces or groupings, or similar subjects are NOT eligible. The presence of scientific bands on wild animals is acceptable. Zoo shots and Game Farm shots are eligible provided the artificial habitat is not apparent in the image. Photographs of artificially produced hybrid plants or animals, mounted specimens, or obviously set arrangements, are ineligible, as are some forms of manipulation manual or digital (see below) that alters the truth of the photographic statement. The photographer may perform enhancements and modifications that improve the presentation of the image that could have been done at the time the image was taken but that does not change the truth of the original nature story. dodging and burning, exposure adjustment, color balance, color correction, white balance, saturation, and sharpening, HDR (High Dynamic Range), are examples of acceptable modifications. Adding elements to your images, combining separate images or rearranging and/or cloning elements in your image, removing major elements from your image other than by cropping, are not acceptable and will lead to disqualification of your image. Color Creative (CC) [Altered Reality] (Anything Goes). Any color/nature digital image that contains "Any Subject", that is not eligible in another category. This includes images where all or part of the image is manipulated, created, edited, fixed, duplicated, or imported from another image (see below). All the components of the image must be original work created by the maker. The photographer must have performed all manipulation. The image should appear to be a manipulated image to a casual viewer. dodging and burning, exposure adjustment, color removal, adding one color, white balance, saturation, and sharpening, HDR (High Dynamic Range), are examples of acceptable modifications. Images are not limited to only these modifications. Adding elements to your images combining separate images or rearranging and/or cloning elements in your image, removing major elements from your image, are examples of acceptable modifications. Use the Export tool in Picasa to resize your photos or to create copies of your photos with all edits applied. When you export a photo in Picasa, you are creating a new copy of that photo with control over both the image resolution (the height and width of the image measured in pixels) and the image quality (JPEG compression). The original photo on your hard drive is not changed. Follow these steps to export copies of your photos: 1. Select the photos you want to export. 2. Click the Export button in the Photo Tray or File > Export Picture to Folder 3. In the 'Export to Folder' window, select your export settings: o Choose an export location and enter a name for the exported folder. o Customize your exported image size and quality: Image size: Click the Resize to: button, then type 768 in the number of pixels box. The longest side of your image will change to 768 pixels. The shortest side is determined automatically to maintain the aspect ratio of the photo. Image quality: Select the Automatic image quality using the drop-down menu. 4. Click OK. Your exported images are saved on your hard drive in the location you specified. In Picasa, you can find these photos in the 'Exported Pictures' collection. Rename the file as described in the Naming your images section. 12/14/11 Rev. 5 Page 5
