3 IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Before operating this device, please read carefully this User Manual and be familiar with its contents prior to using this equipment. To help avoid potential serious injury to the user and/or damage this device, the user must: Never look directly to the optical exit, intense focused light. Use adequate eye protection. Never touch the components or their connections. The printed circuit board is assembled with electrostatically sensitive components. Connect the system to the correct power source and with the proper optical fibers Do not spill liquids in the equipment or use it in damp or harsh environments Never use the equipment near flammable items Be aware about the danger of electrical shock if not used properly Sarspec s LS-MIR is a complete and flexible light source for NIR/SWIR/MWIR regions, integrating a Silicon Nitride emitter with manual intensity control, shutter, filter holder and SMA 905 connector. This compact equipment offers the possibility to have one Silicon Nitride emitter with a wavelength range from 500-5000 nm. This light source have local (knob) and remote intensity control which allows users to select the right intensity for their applications, allowing higher flexibility. All features from LS-MIR can be controlled remotely via D-SUB connector and TTL compatible signals, namely the shutter, intensity control and lamp operation. This light source is a great option for Absorbance, Transmittance and Reflectance and, allows lamps interchangeability without any hardware modification.
4 Main features: - High power - High stability - Wide spectral range: 500-5000 nm (NIR/SWIR/MWIR) - SMA 905 connector, no optical alignment required - Local / Remote operation (Intensity, Shutter, Lamp) - Slot included for slide filters (12.5 mm or 1/2 ) Fig.1 - Spectral radiance of the Silicon Nitride Emitter - Light Source MIR Optional: - User manual - AC Power Adapter - Product report - Slide filters 1 Plug the AC power adapter (optional) into a wall outlet; 2 Plug the other end of the AC power adapter cable into the 15VDC / 2A socket on the back panel; 3 Plug the D-Sub 15F connector of the remote cable (optional) into the REMOTE connector on the back panel. Only necessary if the light source is to be operated remotely; 4 Connect the optical fiber to the SMA 905 port located on the front panel; 5 Select LOCAL or REMOTE operation of the light source with the switch located on the back
panel. Select LOCAL for the operation with the switches on the back panel, and REMOTE for the operation with the remote cable (optional). In the REMOTE position the switches on the back panel are disable; 6 Set the emitter intensity by adjusting the INTENSITY knob located on the back panel; 7 The SHUTTER switch located on the back panel blocks/unblock the light exit. Select the ON position to block (close) the light exit and the OFF position to unblock (open) the light exit; 8 Insert the slide filters (optional) into the slot located on the side panel; 9 Switch on the power, by turning the POWER switch on the back panel (the Sarspec logo on the top will lit on); NOTES: -The emitter ignites instantly following switch-on. -Allow a 5 minutes warm-up time before starting measurements. 5 Fig.2 - Back panel (left) and Side/Front panel (right) IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Always disconnect the power supply before this procedure! We suggest you to contact Sarspec to the replacement of emitter. In the condition if you want to replace it, please proceed as follows: 1. Unscrew the four bolts (A) of the cover located on both sides of the equipment. 2. Gently lift and rotate the cover (B) into the back direction. Careful to do not stress the cable (C) of the LED of the Sarspec logo. 3. Disconnect the plug (D) of the LED of the Sarspec logo. 4. Remove completely the cover (B). 5. Unscrew the two bolts (E) (WL position) and remove the emitter wires. 6. Unscrew the bolt (F) that holds the emitter unit.
6 7. Pull out the emitter unit (G) and place it in a soft surface. 8. Carefully insert the new emitter until it stops. 9. Tighten back the bolt (F). Careful to do not broke the socket of the emitter unit (G). 10. Insert the emitter wires (no polarity) (WL position) and tighten the two bolts (E). 11. Connect the plug (D) of the LED of the Sarspec logo and close the cover (B). Careful to do not stress the cable (C) 12. Screw the four bolts (A) of the cover located on both sides of the equipment NOTE: Please refer to the spare parts at the end of the manual for replacement emitter. 8 System will not turn on No light output Problem Possible solution Ensure that the AC power adapter is plugged into the wall outlet and properly connected in the back panel. Ensure the power switch on the back panel is On (the Sarspec logo on top will illuminate). Ensure the optical fiber is correctly connected and not broken. Ensure the shutter is OFF (open). Ensure the operation switch is on the LOCAL position. Or if on the REMOTE position there is a 5V signal at pin 1 of the remote connector. Check the cooling fan is rotating. The emitter is turned off if the air flow is not sufficient. Replace the emitter. Item Light Source Replacement Lamps Slide Filters (with 12.5x3mm round filter) Ref. LS-MIR Ref.
