Egg Juggler by Christy Hartman

Egg Juggler By Christy Hartman I m sure that you often feel like you are a circus clown juggling all of your responsibilities, kid s activities, deadlines, all the demands that life throws at you. Most of us do a great job of handling our day to day life demands but once in a while you might feel like things get a little precarious. I know I do. Well when things get tough imagine these bunnies that are juggling Easter Eggs and carrots and managing to keep everything spinning in the air. A fun cute analogy for sure and one that I hope will make you chuckle as you paint these bunnies for Easter. Palette: DecoArt Americana Acrylics Blue Violet #13141 Bright Salmon #13611 Bright Yellow #13227 Burnt Sienna #13063 Dioxazine Purple #13101 Electric Pink #13231 Hauser Dark Green #13133 Hauser Medium Green #13132 Honey Brown #13163 Indian Turquoise #13087 Jack-O -Lantern Orange #13229 Lamp Black #13067 Lavender #13034 Moon Yellow #13007 Napa Red #13165 Olive Green #13056 Orange Flame #13550 Snow White #13001 Toffee #13059 Watermelon Slice #13557 Neons Scorching Yellow #18014 Surface: Arched Candle Light #62630 Misc. Highlighter Set (1/4, 1/2 ) #20173 Script Liner, size 18/0 #20136 Blending Set #20168 Stipple Set #20172 Deerfoot Set #20167 Angular Shader, size 1/2 #20111; size 3/8 #20110; size 1/4 #20109 Stencil Brush Set #20189 Artist Inspired Brushes Maxine s Mop, size 3/8 #27182 Use the brush that best fits the area to be painted. Painting Tips: Stenciling: Load a dry stencil brush with paint and remove most of the paint by rubbing the brush in a circular motion onto a piece of dry paper towel. Using a similar brush technique to dry brushing blend your paint using a circular motion over your stencil. If you have too much paint on your brush you will find that the paint begins to puddle under the edges of the stencil, it is always best to start with too little paint as you can always build up your paint layers. Stamping with the Foam Stamps: Load a foam brush with a thin layer of paint and wash the paint over the stamp, reloading until you have a consistency that you prefer. You should be able to stamp a number of times on your piece with this application; this should be a thin application rather than heavy amount of paint. Wash: Thin your paint down to a transparent consistency, load a small amount of transparent paint onto the tip of the brush and gently wash in the desired area to either shade or highlight, mop to soften the edges. I will often use this technique instead of floating as it can be less time consuming. Glaze Float: This is a very thin float meant to layer a transparent paint layer over the previous application to enhance or deepen a shaded area or a highlighted area. Remember the previous layer must be dry prior to glazing as you can lift the previous layer if it is still wet. This is very similar to a wash effect. Preparation: Sand with fine sandpaper until smooth. Wipe with a tack cloth to remove any remaining dust. Seal with sealer using an old brush, sand, and wipe again. Note there are two different bunnies for this project, a boy and a girl bunny. Undercoat the entire piece with a wash of Snow White, sand with fine sand paper again and wipe with a tack cloth. Base the front and back of the piece using a slip slap brush technique. Load your 1 glaze brush with Snow White, dip one corner of the brush into Indian Turquoise, do not blend your brush on your palette, instead take it directly to the piece and begin slip slapping your brush back and forth in a random manner. Reload your brush as needed to cover the piece and achieve a mottled look. Using the Small and Medium Bubble Wrap Stencil and Snow White stencil the small end of the stencil in the center area of the design. Using the Spring Writing Words stencil and Indian Turquoise, position the stencil so that you are happy with the arrangement and coverage over the center area. Both of these stencils add depth, dimension and interest to the piece in the background Transfer the green border area. Float shade the inside half circle with Blue Violet. Using the dot foam texture stamp randomly stamp Electric Pink into the center design area. I like to load this stamp using a foam brush and the paint color I am using, the foam brush allows for a thin paint application you do not want this to be a heavy coat of paint. 2

Base the green border with Olive Green, dry brush highlight with Bright Yellow over the front top and back. Dry brush shade with Hauser Medium Green, deepen the shadow by glaze float shading with Hauser Dark Green. Using the Foam dot stamp dot Snow White over the green areas using the instructions listed above. Using the ¼ check stencil and Lamp Black stencil the check border on the top edge of the candleholder. Transfer the eggs and carrot pattern. Deepen the shaded areas with either Hauser Dark Green or Blue Violet by float shading on either the blue or green areas. Painting Instructions: Carrots: Base the carrots with Jack-O -Lantern Orange, shade with Orange Flame and deepen the shaded areas with Napa Red. Highlight with Moon Yellow and deepen the highlight with Neon Scorching Yellow. Stipple the green tops of the carrots with Hauser Medium Green, stipple shade with Hauser Dark Green, and stipple highlight with Olive Green and deepen the highlight with Neon Scorching Yellow. Eggs: Base the eggs with Snow White. Shade each egg with Toffee and deepen with Honey Brown. Base the larger purple stripes with Lavender, float shade with Dioxazine Purple, and dry brush highlight with Electric Pink. Using a SL line the smaller purple stripes with Lavender. Dip dot the yellow dots with Moon Yellow. Using a SL base the smaller pink stripes with Electric Pink and base the larger pink stripe with Electric Pink. Float shade the larger pink stripe with Watermelon Slice. 3

Base the yellow stripe with Moon Yellow and float shade with Honey Brown, float highlight with Neon Scorching Yellow. Dip dot the pink dots with Electric Pink. Dip dot the yellow dots with Moon Yellow. Using a black permanent marker outline the zig zags. Highlight the top of each egg with a float of Snow White. You can enhance this highlight by using a SL to line the highlight as well. Transfer the bunnies and float shade a thin transparent float of Blue Violet around them to shade. Bunnies: Base the bunnies with Toffee, float shade with Honey Brown, highlight with Snow White. Deepen the shaded areas with Burnt Sienna. Using a circular motion dry brush the cheeks with Bright Salmon. Base inside the ears, paws, and nose with Bright Salmon, float shade with Watermelon Slice, and float highlight with Snow White. Stipple inside the ears with Snow White. Add a highlight line to the nose and paws with Snow White using a SL. Further highlight with bunnies by stippling Snow White lightly into the highlighted areas of the face and ears. Note the pattern photo. Using a SL line the hair with Watermelon Slice, line shade with Napa Red, and line highlight with Electric Pink. Base the tooth with Snow White. Base the eyes with Lamp Black, dip dot the highlight in the eye with Snow White. Base the boy and girl bunny s shirt with Lavender, float highlight with Electric Pink and deepen the highlighted areas by dry brushing Electric Pink over the highlighted areas. Shade with Dioxazine Purple. Base the white shirt/dress inset, ruffles, and sleeves with Snow White, float shade with Orange Flame. Highlight with Neon Scorching Yellow. 4

Base the bows and dots on the shirt/dress with Moon Yellow, float shade with Orange Flame. Highlight the bow and dots with Snow White. Deepen the highlight with Neon Scorching Yellow. Using a SL line the stripes in the girl bunny s arms with Watermelon Slice. Finishing: Using a black permanent marker (such as the Identi-Pen) outline the detail on the bunnies, eggs, carrots, and the border line between the blue center area and the green border. Varnish and enjoy. Pattern at 100% 1 x 1 To ensure your pattern is at 100%, this box should measure 1 x 1 when printed. 5
