Bird control tips Use a range of different products: Different bird control products working together in synergy, create a deterring effect on birds that is far greater than the effect of individual products used on their own. Use products that attack different senses of birds i.e. sight, sound, taste & smell. Using a combination of products that effect 3 or more different senses will have the best results. Bird control methods: Sound Deterrents: These include gas guns (pages 4-5), Bird-X sound deterrents (pages 6-7) and the pyrotechnics and shellcracker (pages 8-9). These products target birds by creating a frightening sound environment, resulting in an area they want to keep away from. Gas guns and sound repellers are great for wide area bird control. Pyrotechnics and ShellCracker are great for moving flocking birds out of crop areas. Visual Deterrents: These include the visual scares (page 14) and predator kites (pages 12-13). These products are seen by the birds to be threatening, causing them to leave the area. Visual deterrents are often used to add effect to other products. For example, the combination of predator kites with a BirdX sound repeller is very effective, as birds associate the predator cries from the sound unit with the visual presence of the kites. Smell Deterrents: Includes Fog Force (pages 10-11). Fog force is one of the best bird deterrents available as its effect on birds is such, that it is impossible for them become used to it. Fog Force effects birds nervous system causing them to feel a lot of pain, the more they come into contact with Fog Force the greater the effect on them will be. Used with a thermal fogger it is a valuable tool for shifting large flocks of birds. Also ideal for keeping birds out of shelter belts and other similar areas. Resident birds: Birds will often become emotionally attached to a particular area - where they have lived or nested and have an available food supply. These resident birds can be the hardest to deter as they will keep coming back to the same area time and again. Removing resident birds can make a large difference in any bird problem situation. Mist net or birds traps are options for bird removal (page 15). Fog Force - Bird Repellent Fog Force is a bird repellent that is applied to the air space with a thermal fogger. Birds flying through the fog, breathe this in. Although harmless to birds, the fog affects their nerves around their beak area, causing them to feel pain. After repeat exposure to the fog, birds are trained to avoid the areas covered. Fog force is best applied earlier in the morning or later in the evening as birds are flying to or from the area. The fog has the most affect, as birds fly through this. Why Fog Force is great for bird control Great for use in areas where birds are living or nesting like shelter belts, to help drive them out of these areas. Birds living in nearby areas, are normally the ones that will cause the most damage to your orchard. Normally after a few days of applying the fog, birds have had enough of the pain it causes them and learn to avoid the areas covered. Predator Kites Predator kites are a life-like bird of prey, commonly flown on a short 2 metre line from a telescopic pole where they fly like a real bird. These are our most popular and successful visual bird deterrent. An effective way to protect your orchard from pest birds. Visual Deterrents Visual bird deterrents are one of the oldest and most common methods of deterring birds.
