SmartSky 4G LTE Satcom Direct Connecting with Customers 2018
Who is SmartSky Networks?
Results Experienced by Customers, Partners and Media Data operations during NBAA and media demo flights confirmed SmartSky 4G LTE s unrivaled speed and capacity. Multi-GB per hour actual data consistent throughput. More than 10 concurrent devices in use without taxing the system. Actual peak speeds well in excess of 10 Mbps, with individually run speed tests showing high multi-mbps bidirectional data rates, as well. Average return link traffic representing nearly 25 percent of the data. No other inflight connectivity network supports these crucially needed ratios to run the popular applications customers want, need and expect to use. Average of more than 50 seamless beam handovers per flight, proving the most difficult engineering aspect of the system works, and demonstrating the system s inherent scalability.
SmartSky 4G ATG System Advantage
Latency controls Page Load Times Satellite IFC suffers slow webpage load times due to 600 msec+ latency (i.e. signal roundtrip time) Analysis of the average page load times (in seconds) for top 100 sites at various download speeds: total transfer size: 2.1 MB total HTTP requests: 105 page load time is dominated by the round trip latency (HTTP head of line blocking) page load time improves with faster connections for connection speeds below 2 Mbps, page load time is dominated by the connection speed SmartSky s brand promise is to keep latency < 100 msec Source: Cambridge Consultants
Network Deployment
Network Progress Ground station and antenna production continues Ground cabinets in inventory
Network Progress Field deployment underway Over 50% of launch coverage sites are now complete or ready for final up-fit and connection of equipment National Data Centers deployed on east and west coasts Ground Antennas and cabinet being installed Additional regional gateway deployed in Midwest Integration to SD NOC on track
Business Aviation Tonnage Heat Map Informs Initial Network Coverage Plan for Deployment Note: Tonnage is the overall amount of flight traffic or aircraft that fly a specific track.

SmartSky Select CWAP Program An open architecture approach to the in-cabin solution Current partners SmartSky continues to work with current and interested partners. SmartSky Select verification process CWAPs from current and future partners will undergo a collaborative verification process to ensure interoperability with the SmartSky 4G system. A wide range of CWAP options will be validated as solutions for all sizes of aircraft, available directly from each CWAP vendor. Interoperability testing Systems integration between SD Routers and SmartSky Aircraft Radio underway. Final integration of SDR and LTE-Hub to complete in February with Satcom Direct Service bulletin to follow.
Aircraft Certification
