Press Release [For Immediate Release] K. Wah Officially Handover Anderson Road Quarry to HKSAR Government Contributing to the Prosperity of Hong Kong for over Half Century An Industry Role Model Promoting Efficiency, Safety and Green Production Sustains Competitive Edge while Exploring New Opportunities (Hong Kong, 26 July 2017)- K. Wah Group s construction materials business K. Wah Construction Materials Limited ( KWCM ), in concluding its commercial excavation and operation work at the Anderson Road Quarry stretching over half a century returned the site to the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ( HKSAR ) today. Mr Lam Sai-hung, JP, Director of Civil Engineering and Development Department and Commissioner of Mines of the HKSAR; Mr Ho Kin-sang Kenneth, JP, Acting Head of Geotechnical Engineering Office and Deputy Commissioner of Mines of the HKSAR; Mr Choi Kwong-yin, Deputy Head of Geotechnical Engineering Office of the HKSAR; Mr Sing Hon-keung, Vice-Chairman of the Sai Kung District Council; Mr Hung Kam-in, Vice Chairman of the Kwun Tong District Council; Mr Lambert Leung, Chief Executive Officer of Cheung Kong Infrastructure Materials; Mr Lam Moon-tim, Bernard, SBS, Ex-Director of Civil Engineering; and Mr Vincent Yu, Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Construction Materials Limited, together with Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group; Mr Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of the K. Wah Group; Mr Joseph Chee, Managing Director of K. Wah Construction Materials; and Mr David Chen, Associate Director and Head of Southern Region of K. Wah Construction Materials officiated at the handover ceremony, witnessing this significant historical moment together. K. Wah was the first private enterprise awarded a quarrying rights contract in Hong Kong; gaining access to the Anderson Road Quarry in 1964. Since then, K. Wah has established an exemplary model in the industry with its pioneering efforts in implementing automation equipment. For more than five decades, K. Wah has supplied premium aggregates to large-scale infrastructure and housing projects in Hong Kong, including Kai Tak Airport, Chek Lap Kok New Airport, Tsing Ma Bridge, Route 3, Cross-Harbour Tunnel and Western Harbour Crossing, reclamation works along Kowloon East and the kerb of Kowloon Bay to Kwun Tong Hoi Bun Road. The Anderson Road Quarry has thus played a pivotal role in supporting the development and prosperity of Hong Kong. Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group, in his speech at the handover ceremony said, Quarrying is the founding business of K. Wah Group, and the Anderson Road Quarry is deemed as an important cornerstone of the Group from which it has been able to maintain its leading position in Hong Kong over several decades. The dedication of all staff members at K. Wah Construction Materials, particularly those who worked at the Anderson Road Quarry site from inception to its current operation, can be credited for the quarry s 1

gradual development into a significant and successful operation. Along the way, each and every staff member of K. Wah Group has also upheld the Group s guiding principle of prudence, pragmatism and perseverance while looking towards the future. K. Wah has consequently been able to pave a solid foundation and develop into a successful enterprise in a progressive manner. Capitalising on unparalleled experience gained over half a century, KWCM now possesses leading-edge technologies, diverse expertise and a modern management system. We are confident in our capacity to take on new challenges ahead, and we hope to leverage our accumulated experiences to continue our development as well as contribute to the growth of Hong Kong and Mainland China in the future. During the earliest years of operation, KWCM sought to develop the Anderson Road Quarry into a fully enclosed and environmentally friendly aggregate production site featuring automated operations and a modern management system. Such advancements were intended to ensure safe production, mitigate the quarry s impact on the surrounding environment, and establish K. Wah Group as a role model for the industry in respect of sustainable development. In 1997, KWCM entered into an agreement with the Civil Engineering and Development Department ( CEDD ) of the HKSAR involving the Rehabilitation of Anderson Road Quarry. Spanning 17 years, the agreement would lead to the rehabilitation of the ecological environment of the Anderson Road Quarry, and ultimately, creation of a multi-purpose land tract with more than 40 hectares available for development. After 20 years of rehabilitation and embellishment, the site now includes nearly 230,000 planted trees, a 200-metre long stairway on a major slope, and a drainage system that is over 10 kilometres in length. From such measures, KWCM has transformed the quarry into a beautiful natural landscape ahead of its return to the Government, which aims to develop private and subsidised housing flats with a planned population of about 25,000 and thus benefit society and the people of Hong Kong. Through its continuous regional expansion and product diversification efforts, KWCM has transformed into a fully integrated, environmentally friendly and value-added construction materials supplier in the region and which possesses world-class technologies, experience and management system. In the future, KWCM expects to support the Hong Kong Government in promoting the operation and development of quarry sites. At the same time, KWCM will continue to promote environmentally friendly technologies in a bid to provide quality, value-added and high energy-efficient products such as aggregates, Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag (GGBS), cement and concrete. As a one-stop integrated enterprise offering ecologically friendly and value-added solutions, KWCM will continue to make investments that facilitate the development and economic prosperity of Hong Kong and Mainland China. It looks forward to participating in infrastructure projects arising from the One Belt, One Road initiative and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Big Bay Area. In the supply of construction materials and premium aggregates, K. Wah will continue to contribute to the society with its vast experiences and pass on the legacy of its premium brand and reputation to make further contributions to the development of Hong Kong and Mainland China. 2
