1. General In order to showcase the high standard of quality of KSB products at trade fairs, exhibits must always be in a perfect condition. On principle, there must be no difference in appearance between an exhibit and the actual product. All exhibits must be manufactured with such care that they will be able to stand up to close, critical scrutiny. 2. Colouring Exhibits shall only be painted in those areas where the actual product also has a solid coat of paint. All parts of the product which are left in their natural colour, such as shafts, bolts, screws, seal elements, packings etc., shall remain without paint on the exhibit too. Note: Materials which are not provided with a solid coat of paint shall be very carefully cleaned and treated with suitable anti-corrosive compound. 2.1. Pumps All exterior surfaces of pump exhibits shall be provided with a satin-matte finish as listed below. KSB exhibits made of special metal materials and plastics shall not be provided with a solid coat of colour paint. The same shall apply for workpieces which are exposed to high temperatures in actual use. The exterior and interior of KSB circulator pumps shall be painted with RAL 2002 vermilion. RAL 5002 ultramarine blue Etanorm, RPH, Multitec, CPK, Movitec, Ama-Porter, UPA RAL 2002 vermilion Circulator, service water (Rio series) and in-line pumps (Etaline, Trialine) RAL 9006 white aluminium Hot water and thermal oil pumps RAL 1023 traffic yellow RAL 7035 light grey Drainage pumps and waste water lifting units Wetted parts, impellers, control cabinets
2.2. Valves The outer surface(s) of KSB valve exhibits, i.e. all parts and surfaces which are not intended to come into contact with fluid, shall be painted in the colour(s) of the actual product. All valve exhibits shall be provided with a highgloss finish as listed below. Notes on colour paints: When mixing colours to RAL, slight variations in colour may occur from paint manufacturer to paint manufacturer. Minor colour variations may even occur between batches from the same paint manufacturer. Degrees of sheens will vary likewise. Soft-seated shut-off elements (rubber), valve discs and valve plugs shall not be coated with paint. KSB valve exhibits for drinking water applications: Valve discs not made of special materials shall be coated with RAL 3001 brown red paint resistant to drinking water. These variations may become apparent when the products are viewed side-by-side. It is recommended to provide for sufficient quantities of paint. RAL 5002 ultramarine blue BOA-Compact, BOA-H RAL 9006 white aluminium NORI RAL 5012 light blue BOAX-B RAL 2002 vermilion BOAX-S, BOAX-SF RAL 9005 jet black BOA-Compact EKB RAL 9003 signal white Cut faces, wetted inner surfaces RAL 7016 anthracite grey Handwheels RAL 3011 brown red Valve discs for drinking water applications
3. Workmanship 3.1. Pretreatment of the workpieces to be painted Old paint shall be thoroughly removed. All surfaces shall be stripped or sand-blasted if need be. All surfaces shall be cleaned and degreased. All casting defects or other defects in the surface of a workpiece shall be corrected. Major damage shall be examined in due time in order to determine if a replacement of the damaged part with a new part would not be more cost-effective. Parts that are missing or broken off shall be trowelled off and smoothed to an even finish. If necessary, the surrounding surface structure shall be recreated prior to painting, e.g. with the help of melamine resin and silica sand. Brush and trimming marks, grooves and other defects in the surface shall be filled, planed and seamlessly smoothed so as to present a true rendering of the main contours of the workpiece. A final sandblasting process will restore the uniformity of the surface texture provided the repair materials used allow such a process. 3.2. Primer All workpieces that are intended to receive a coat of paint shall be primed with a suitable red oxide or two-component primer. To allow the surface texture of the workpiece to remain visible after having been coated with paint, the layer thickness of the primer shall not exceed 50 μm (dry layer thickness). 3.3. Application of top coat of paint All top coats shall be applied using alkyde paint Pumps with satin-matte finish Valves with high-gloss finish The layer thickness shall not exceed 80 μm (dry layer thickness). The surface structure of the model shall remain visible under the top coat of paint too. Handwheels and levers shall be painted in the colour of the original product. The exterior RAL 9006 finish of valve exhibits shall be in satin-matte (the production of a high-gloss colour is technically not possible). Valve exhibits with a larger surface (gate and ball valves from DN 400 up) shall be painted in satin matt finish (mirroring). 4. Cutaway models 4.1. Section views 4.1.1. Pumps One-quarter section views shall normally be created. Horizontal pump casings (for example: Etanorm, CPK) shall, as a rule, be opened in such a manner that the viewer of the cutaway portion sees the suction nozzle point to the left. Vertical pump casings (for example: Amarex) shall, as a rule, be opened in such a manner that the viewer of the cutaway portion sees the discharge nozzle point to the right. If complete pump sets or parts of pump sets are cut, the viewer of the cutaway model shall see the motor on the right.
The casing shall be opened with two straight cuts in the direction of the centreline one to be made in an exact horizontal direction and one to be made in an exact vertical direction. Pump cutaway models All non-rotating internal parts shall also be cut. All cutting edges produced only need to be deburred. The actual cut faces shall be smoothed, thoroughly cleaned and provided with a protective coat of lubricant against corrosion. They shall, on principle, not be provided with a coat of paint. In order to prevent corrosion or other damage, they shall be maintained with lubricant at regular intervals, but at least prior to each use. All rotating parts shafts, impellers etc. shall, as a rule, remain uncut. 4.1.2. Valves One-quarter section views shall, normally, be created. Valve cutaway models Valve bodies shall, as a rule, be opened in such a manner that the viewer of the model sees the cutaway portion point to the left. The body shall be opened with two straight cuts (90 cut-out) in an exact vertical direction to the vertical centreline and adapted to securely rest on a baseplate. The actual cut faces shall be smoothed, thoroughly cleaned and coated with RAL 9003 signal white. Shafts, stems, packings etc. shall, as a rule, not be cut.
5. Transport boxes The side walls and lids of transport boxes shall be made of water-tight, glued plywood boards 18 or 20 mm thick (truck bed boards). The bases of the transport boxes shall also be made of plywood boards. Depending on the weight of the contents of the transport boxes, they shall be 22, 25 or 30 mm thick. If necessary, the bases shall be reinforced with squared timber frames made of plywood boards. All boxes shall be provided with high-strength rotary locks or high-strength hinges. Exhibits shall be secured in the boxes so as to prevent friction contact with the sides of the boxes and damage when properly handled. 6. Special provision Particularly large models taken from Production and sold after the trade fair are not subject to these Guidelines on the Design and Manufacture of Exhibits. However, in this case too, it must be ensured that exhibits are in a perfect condition.
