Project idea/ Company expertise The National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR) "Demokritos" is a self-governing research organisation, under the supervision of the Greek Government and is the largest research centre in applied sciences and engineering in Greece. NCSR-Division of Applied Technologies contributes to high-technology sectors, successfully taken part in several European and national ehealth and knowledge management projects with the objective of increasing the competitiveness of the Greek industry, through application of state-of-the-art technologies. Within the realm of these projects ehealth and knowledge management platforms have been developed and hosted within NCSR/DAT premises as well as infrastructures, hospitals, end users has been established covering the broader area of Europe. The core business and skills of the NCSR-Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications (IIT) include among the others location based services, semantic information extraction from multimedia content for enhancement of ontologies, security of network, means and people, biometrics and related applications and services, mobile (including 3G ones and beyond) and wireless communication system (including quality acceptance), intelligent Networks and open architectures including protocol engineering, etc.

Company expertise Areas of Activity: Biotechnology, generic tools and medical technologies for human health Detection, diagnosis and monitoring Expertise offered: State of the Art Health ICT Technologies, Data management RESEARCH AREA State of the Art Health ICT technologies for unobtrusive vital signs monitoring (detection, diagnosis and monitoring of chronic diseases) Establishing large scale trials for validation Data management solutions and Algorithms Techniques for improved data security and privacy EXPERTISE OFFERED Health ICT applications Design and Development Health Data Management using advanced data structures and algorithms

Topic Topics of interest: HEALTH.2013.2.4.2-2: Comparative effectiveness research of existing technologies for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. HEALTH.2013.2.4.2-3: Optimising lifestyle interactions in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease across the lifespan. HEALTH.2013.3.3-1: Social innovation for health promotion.

HEALTH.2013.2.4.2-3: Optimizing lifestyle interactions in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease across the lifespan. We have developed a web based monitoring platform and we are trying to use relevant algorithms to fuse important factors such as vital signs, demographic data, health and family history, lifestyle choices such as eating, daily activity, smoking, emotion (for stress) and others. We propose to adopt a 3 tier solution: monitoring nutrition (mobile apps to screen food intake such as calories), vital signs and fitness variables. We can set up the monitoring tools and infrastructure (www.usefil.eu) to: detect physical activity and monitor cardiovascular health (vital signs), monitor the interaction(s) between physical activity, other lifestyle factors and pharmacotherapy.
