King William County Public Schools Project-Based Learning Unit 1. Project Title: Geometry Town (4 th ) 2. Project Idea/Concept: TSW collaborate to design and develop a new town using geometric concepts. 3. Entry Event: You are a city planner. You have been asked to plan a new part of your city. You will first be asked to create a 2-D blueprint (map) of your plan. Next you will need to submit your plan to the city council (your teacher). Once approved you will build a 3-D model of your city using various geometric concepts. 4. Essential Questions: How can we design buildings to meet the geometric specifications? 5. Standards/Objectives: Language Arts Mathematics Social Studies Science 6. Performance Objectives: 2.15 Symmetry 3.14 Solid Figures 4.10 Representations of Lines and Angles 4.11 Congruence 4.12 Polygons 3.11 Government 4.5 Ecosystems When finished with this unit TSW know: The layout of a city Role of City Planner and council How geometry is reflected in architecture When finished with this unit TSW be able to do: Construct a 2-D map of a town Construct a 3-D model of a town Follow step by step directions 7. Learning Goals: Identify and relate geometric concepts to real life. Collaborate with a partner to design and develop a 2-D and 3-D representation. Understand how people can serve their community, state and nation. Understand how human activity influences ecosystems.

Name: Homeroom Teacher: Geometry Town Task List You are a city planner. You have been asked to plan a new part of your city. You will first be asked to create a 2-D blueprint (map) of your plan. Next you will need to submit your plan to the city council (your teacher). Once approved, you will build a 3-D model of your city using various geometric concepts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your map will need to include: 4 streets that are parallel to each other 1 road that is perpendicular to the 4 parallel streets 1 avenue that intersects at least 2 streets but is not perpendicular to them 8 buildings that are in the shape of any polygon and color coded by the following requirements: 2 different shaped red buildings that have at least one right angle and at least one set of parallel lines. 2 different shaped green buildings that have at least one obtuse angle 2 different shaped blue buildings with no parallel or perpendicular sides 2 different shaped yellow buildings that are right angles 1 park shaped like a right triangle with the following features inside the park: a swimming pool in the shape of a parallelogram a sandbox shaped like a trapezoid a sandbox with more than four sides 1 park that has at least 4 different geometric figures inside BUT has a symmetrical design (think about your line of symmetry and how the same figures should be on opposite sides) Name the streets, road, avenue, and parks Plan your city on a piece of paper first. Check off each task once you have completed it. When your plan is complete, use a ruler, construction paper, and other classroom materials to create your blueprint and model. Be creative and have fun! https://www.georgiastandards.org/common-core/common%20core%20frameworks/ccgps_math_4_unit6frameworkse.pdf
