Page 1 Introduction to AutoCAD 2010 Alf Yarwood Chapter 5 Exercise 1 1. Open AutoCAD 2010 with a double-click on its shortcut icon in the Windows desktop. 2. Call the Polyline tool, either by entering pl at the command line or with a left-click on its tool icon in the Home/ Draw panel. 3. Set Snap and Ortho on, either by pressing the keys F9 and F8 or with left-clicks on the Snap Mode and Ortho Mode buttons in the status bar.. 4. Using the method of dragging and entering the distance in unit numbers, construct the outline of the drawing before filleting. 5. Call the Fillet tool, either by entering f at the command line, or with a left-click on its tool icon in the Home/Modify panel. The command line shows: _fillet Current settings: Mode = TRIM, Radius = 0 Select first object or [Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]: enter r right-click Specify fillet radius <0>: enter 10 right-click Select first object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/ Multiple]: pick a pline Select second object or shift-select to apply corner: pick the adjacent pline right-click FILLET 6. Continue filleting each corner of the outline.

Page 2 7. Using the Polyline tool construct one of the long rectangular strips and one of the smaller rectangles within the left-hand end of the outline. With the Fillet tool, fillet all the corners to a radius of 10. 8. Call the Copy tool, either by entering cp at the command line, or with a left-click on its tool icon in the Home/Modify panel. The command line shows: _copy Select objects: pick the long strip 1 found Current settings: Copy mode = Multiple Specify base point or [Displacement/mOde] <Displacement>: pick any point on the strip Specify second point of displacement or <use first point as displacement>: pick a point for the central strip Specify second point of displacement or <use first point as displacement>: pick a point for the bottom strip Specify second point of [Exit/Undo] <Exit>: right-click right-click COPY Select objects: pick the left-hand filleted rectangle 1 found Specify base point or [Displacement/mOde] <Displacement>: pick a point on the rectangle Specify second point of displacement or <use first point as displacement>: pick a point for the position of the lower rectangle Specify second point or [Exit/Undo] <Exit>: right-click 9. Save your drawing with the file name 5_Exercise01.dwg to your floppy disk. 10. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window. Note In the answer to Exercise 1 it was not thought necessary to use the Circle and Trim tools because the Fillet tool was used to obtain the half circles at the ends of the smaller rectangles.

Call the Array tool, either by entering ar at the command line or with a leftclick on its tool icon in the Home/Modify panel The Array dialog appears. Make settings in the dialog as shown: Rectangular Array - radio button clicked, Rows set to 6, Columns set to 8; Row offset - set to -30, Column offset set to 30. 5. Left-click the Select objects button and when the dialog closes, pick the circle. The command line shows: Pick or press Esc to return to dialog or <Right-click to accept array>: right-click if satisfied with array

With the Polyline and Fillet tools construct the outline for the drawing. 3. With the Circle tool construct four R20 circles as shown in the left-hand end of the drawing below. 4. Construct the central rectangle with semicircular ends in a similar way with the Line, Circle and Trim tools. 7. Save your drawing with the file name 5_Exercise03.dwg to your floppy disk. 8. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window. Chapter 5 Exercise 4 2. Construct the drawing Fig. 5.49 using Circle and Line tools. Draw the four circles. Call the Line tool. To draw the two lines enter responses to the command line prompts as follows: _line Specify first point: enter cen right-click of pick one of the circles Specify next point or [Undo]: enter @100<75 right-click Specify next point or [Undo]: right-click right-click LINE Specify first point: enter cen right-click of pick one of the circles Specify next point or [Undo]: enter @100<105 right-click Specify next point or [Undo]: right-click 3. Call the Offset tool, either by entering o at the command line or with a left-click on its tool icon in the Home/ Modify panel. At the command line enter responses as follows: _offset Current settings: Erase source=no Layer=Source OFFSETGAPTYPE=0 Specify offset distance or [Through/Erase/Layer] <Through>: enter 5 right-click Select object to offset or [Exit/Undo] <Exit>: pick the left-hand sloping line Specify point on side to offset: pick to the right of the line Select object to offset or [Exit/Undo] <Exit>: pick the right-hand sloping line Specify point on side to offset: pick to the left of the line Select object to offset or [Exit/Undo] <Exit>: right-click 4. Page 6 5. Call the Circle tool and making use of the Trr prompt place circles tangential to the outline as shown below. The command line will show: _circle Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]: enter t right-click Specify point on object for first tangent of circle: pick the left-hand line Specify point on object for second tangent of circle: pick the upper arc Specify radius of circle: enter 10 right-click right-click And continue in this manner to construct the four tangential circles as shown 6. Call the Trim tool and trim unwanted parts. 7. Call Pedit and join the parts of the outline to form a single polyline. enter pe right-click PEDIT Select polyline or [Multiple]: enter m right-click Select objects: Specify opposite corner: window the outline 8 found Enter an option [Close/Open/Join/Width/Fit/Spline/Decurve/Ltype gen/undo]: enter j right-click Enter an option [Close/Open/Join/Width/Fit/Spline/Decurve/Ltype gen/undo]: right-click 8. Call the Array tool and when the Array dialog appears set up a Polar array: Polar radio button - set on with a left-click in its circle Total number of items - enter 12 Angle to fill - unchanged at 360 Select objects button - left-click, followed by picking the filleted outline Pick Center Point button - left-click, followed by another left-click at the centre of the circles Array warning window - if the array is satisfactory left-click the Accept button. 9. Save your drawing with the file name 5_Exercise04.dwg to your floppy disk. 10. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window.

Page 7 Chapter 5 Exercise 5 2. Construct the two circles and two lines of the arrow, using the Circle and Polyline tools - Drawing 1. 3. Call the Trim tool from the Home/Draw panel and trim unwanted parts - Drawing 2. 4. Call the Polyline tool and add the arrow Drawing 3. The command line sequence for the arrow is as follows: _pline Specify start point: pick the point between the top of the ends of the two lines Current line-width is 0 Specify next point or [Arc/Halfwidth/Length/Undo/Width]: enter w right-click Specify starting width <0>: enter 20 right-click Specify ending width <20>: enter 0 right-click Specify next point or [Arc/Halfwidth/Length/Undo/Width]: drag upwards and enter 30 right-click Specify next point or [Arc/Close/Halfwidth/Length/Undo/Width]: right-click 5. Call the Array tool from the Modify toolbar and make the following settings in the Array dialog: Polar Array - radio button set on (dot in circle) with a left-click Total number of items - enter 8 Angle to fill - 360. 6. Left-click the Select objects button and when the dialog disappears window the drawing. 7. In the dialog left-click the Pick Center Point button and left-click the centre of the circles. 8. In the dialog left-click the Preview< button. 9. When the array appears with the Array warning window, if satisfied with the array left-click the Accept button. 10. Save your drawing with the file name 5_Exercise05.dwg to your floppy disk. 11. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window. Chapter 5 Exercise 6 2. To construct the rectangle, first call the Rectangle tool from the Home/Draw panel. Because the dimensions of the chamfers of the rectangle are not dimensions which can be constructed using the Rectangle tool, they will have to be constructed using the Chamfer tool called from the Home/Modify panel with a left-click. Then enter the following at the command line prompts: _chamfer (TRIM mode) Current chamfer Dist1 = 0, Dist2 = 0 Select first line or [prompts]: enter d right-click Specify first chamfer distance <0>: enter 20 right-click Specify second chamfer distance <20>: enter 10 rightclick Select first line or [prompts]: pick Select second line or shift-select to apply corner: pick 4. Repeat until all four chamfers are added to the rectangle. 5. Construct the two circles of the central slot using the Circle tool and add the lines using the Polyline tool set to a Width of 0.5. 6. With the Trim tool, trim unwanted parts. 7. Call the Polyline Edit tool by entering pe at the command line and make the following entries to command line prompts: enter pe right-click PEDIT Select polyline or [Multiple]: enter m right-click Select objects: window the slot drawing Specify opposite corner: pick 4 found Convert Lines and Arcs to polylines [Yes/No]? <Y> right-click Enter an option [prompts]: enter w right-click Specify new width for all segments: enter 0.5 right-click Enter an option [prompts]: right-click 8. Call the Move tool either by entering m at the command line or with a left-click on its tool icon in the Home/ Modify panel. Move the slot to its top left-hand position. The command line shows: _move Select objects: pick the slot drawing Specify base point or [Displacement] <Displacement>: pick the left-hand end of the slot Specify second point of displacement or <use first point as displacement>: pick new position 9. Call the Copy tool from the Home/Modify panel and copy the moved slot to its three other positions. _copy Select objects: pick the slot drawing Specify base point or [Displacement] <Displacement>: pick the left-hands end of the slot Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>: pick.specify second point or [Exit/Undo] <Exit>: pick Specify second point or [Exit/Undo] <Exit>: pick

Chapter 5 Exercise 7 2. Construct the required drawing using the following tools: Circle, Line and Trim. The upper fillets of the drawing are best constructed as shown in the drawings 1, 2 and 3. 3. Using the Copy tool from the Home/Modify panel, copy the drawing twice. 4. Call the Rotate tool, either by entering ro at the command line or with a left-click on its tool icon in the Home/Modify panel. Rotate the copies as indicated in the command line sequence below: _rotate Select objects: Specify opposite corner: window the drawing 9 found Specify base point: pick the centre of the bottom circle Specify rotation angle or [Copy/Reference] <0>: enter 330 right-click 5. Save your drawing with the file name 5_Exercise07.dwg to your floppy disk. 6. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window. Chapter 5 Exercise 8 2. Construct the given drawing. Note that the fillets on the underside of the drawing are added by drawing circles tangential to the lines, followed by using Trim to remove unwanted details. 3. Using the Copy tool from the Home/Modify panel, copy the drawing twice. 4. Taking the first copy, first rotate it through 300 and then scale to 0.5 of its original size. The responses to the command line prompts for both these operations are as follows: _rotate Select objects: Specify opposite corner: window the drawing 7 found Specify base point: pick centre of circles Specify rotation angle or [Copy/Reference] <0>: enter 300 right-click 5. Using the Scale tool from the Home/Modify panel, scale the rotated drawing: _scale Select objects: window the drawing Specify opposite corner: pick 7 found Specify base point: pick centre of circles Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference] <1>: enter 0.5 right-click

Page 10 6. Scale the second copy to a scale of twice full size. 7. Save your drawing with the file name 5_Exercise08.dwg to your floppy disk. 8. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window. Chapter 5 Exercise 9. 2. Construct the drawing 1 from Fig. 5.55. 3. Call the Stretch tool. The command line shows: _stretch Select objects to stretch by crossing-window or crossing-polygon... Select objects: enter c (for Crossing) right-click Specify first corner: pick first point Specify opposite corner: pick second point 1 found Specify base point or [Displacement] <Displacement>: pick anywhere within the window Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>: drag until the horizontal dimensions are 175 and 115. 4. Now repeat the stretch vertically until the vertical dimensions are 100 and 140. 5. Save your drawing with the file name 5_Exercise09.dwg to your floppy disk. 6. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window. Chapter 5 Exercise 10 1. Open acadiso.dwt - left-click New... in the Quick Access toolbar. 2. Before calling the Array tool from the Home/Modify panel, construct the drawing as shown with the half circle to be arrayed at the right-hand side end of the line of 10 units length. This is necessary because, as with all other operations in AutoCAD, the default direction of circular actions is anticlockwise. 3. Save your drawing with the file name 5_Exercise10.dwg to your floppy disk. 4. Left-click the Close button of the drawing window.

Page 11 Additional exercises 1. Construct the upper drawing of the two drawings on the left using Circle, Arc and Trim to produce the lower of the two drawings. Then, using Copy, construct the main drawing below. 2. Construct the semicircle, circles and lines as shown by the left-hand drawing using the Polyline tool to a width=1. Then, using the Mirror tool, construct the right-hand drawing from the polylines.

Page 12 3. Construct the polyline outline and circle shown in the left-hand drawing to a width=1.5. Then array the drawing as shown in the right-hand drawing. 4. Construct the outline drawing 1.using Circle and Line tools. Trim as shown in drawing 2 and change the outline to a closed polyline of width=0.7. Form an array from the outline and add the other details as shown with plines of width=0.7. 5. Construct the drawing as shown. 6. Construct the polyline shown in the lefthand drawing. Copy the polyline three times. First rotate each polyline then move the rotations as shown in the righthand drawing. Finish the drawing with a polyline of width=2 forming a square surrounding the arrows. Multiple choice questions 1.
