MAROONDAH PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY NEWSLETTER February 2015 Issue No 141 Welcome to the February 2015 MPS newsletter Our new home and a photographic challenge Don t forget that all meetings from now on will be held in our new home: North Ringwood Community House 35-39 Tortice Drive Ringwood North (the old Parkwood Secondary College) And now for the photographic challenge One of the lovely ladies who manage NHRC thinks that this is a very difficult building to photograph, and would love one of us to takes a good photo of it. So come early one night and take a look around; if you get inspired, feel free to snap away. See you at NHRC on Wednesday evening. Please call Joy on 0407 152 436 if you think you are lost. The best option for parking once you come through the gates is to follow the gravel road designated Extra Parking, and swinging to the left at the end (although there is a very small car park on the right). The photos on the next page show (a) the turn-off to the Extra Parking area, (b) the gravel road and (c) from the car park with our room in the background. If you come in from that car park, we are the last door on the right. If you park in the bitumen car park at the front, you ll need to walk around the back of the building until you find us. Meeting 1 Wednesday 1 April Judging Task Open and B&W EDI Submit Task Unloved man-made object, plus B&W EDI April Club meetings Meeting 2 Wednesday 15 April Four Club Interclub hosted by MPS President s Report Hello everyone What a great opening to the year we have had, with moving into our new premises at North Ringwood Community House and then learning that Barry Kearney has won four acceptances at the 2015 VIGEX International Print Photography Salon. VIGEX is the only international print photographic exhibition conducted in Victoria, so Barry s achievement against such serious competition is well worth celebrating. Well done, Barry! More good news is that, thanks to donations from the Bendigo Bank and a couple of very generous members, we are fast approaching the time when we can start to look around for a new projector. If any of our members or friends have experience with projectors, we d love to have the benefit of that experience. Please contact Cameron Mates or me if you re interested. The Committee has made a commitment to improve our results at interclub competitions and has formed a subcommittee, headed up by Stephen Bode, to manage our submissions. The first interclub comp for the year will be the 4 Club Interclub hosted by MPS on 15 April. Reminder about submissions We would like to remind everyone about how many images may be submitted for each category. With the recent changes there has been some confusion. Members may submit: 2 prints (A-Grade or B-Grade) 2 EDIs (A-Grade or B-Grade) 1 B&W EDI (Both grades) Members are also reminded that they are asked to submit EDI versions of their competition print entries, and that these EDIs must meet the specifications set out for regular EDI submissions, that is: No more than 1 Mb. No more than 1600 pixels wide and 1200 pixels high (whether in landscape or portrait orientation). JPG format. Remember that the print EDIs do not go to the judge they are only used on judging night to speed the process up a little. We ll see you this coming Wednesday, 4 March, at 8:00 pm at NRCH for our judging session on Typically Melbourne, and then on 18 March for our in-house presentation on Black and white options and effects. Cheers till then Joy Page 4
