Students will keep a dialectical journal for each book they read, to turn in on the first day of school for a summer reading grade. Make sure to include the names of all main characters and locations, as well as what happened throughout the book journaling after every chapter. These journals must be neatly handwritten in one 8 ½ x 11 spiral notebook (or use your ipad or tablet-following the same format given), with each novel clearly labeled. Fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will have dialectic journal entries for one novel in their notebook, but will read two novels. Read the books throughout the summer; trying to cram them all in during the week before school starts will not produce good results.
