Installation Remote The remote operates on 4-AAA batteries that are included with this kit. Install the AAA Batteries supplied with the unit into the battery compartment. It is recommended to use ALKALINE batteries with this product. Be sure the batteries are installed with the (+) and (-) ends facing in the correct direction. transmitter at the factory; the remote receiver When the batteries are installed, the temperature indicator should have a value and the and buttons should appear on the screen. If they do not appear, check the orientation of the batteries and change if necessary. BATTERY COMPARTMENT Note: Due to the sensitive temperature-monitoring components in the transmitter, it may be necessary to allow the remote to stabilize to room temperature before accurate room temperatures are displayed on the screen. If the remote is activated from a severe cold condition, it can take up to fifteen minutes for accurate temperature readings to appear. Receiver When plugged into a standard 110-120 VAC receptacle, the remote receiver operates on commands from the transmitter or from the slide switch on the face of the receiver. : will manually turn on the fireplace. REMOTE: will allow use of handheld transmitter. If the system does not respond to the transmitter on initial use, check the battery positions in the remote. If that does not work, see the SECURITY CODE section. : will disable the remote receiver. It is suggested that the slide switch be placed in the position if you will be away from your home for an extended period of time. Figure 1. RECEIVER ANTENNA LEARN To 120VAC input Figure 2. Installation WARNING This remote control system must be installed exactly as outlined in these instructions. Read all instructions completely before attempting installation. Follow instructions carefully during installation. Any modifications of this remote control or any of its components will void the warranty and may pose a fire hazard. Wiring Instructions A qualified electrician should install the remote control system 1. Disconnect and remove the wall switch wire from terminals 3 and 4 of the control box. See Figure 3 or Figure 3a. 2. Feed the red wires from the remote receiver through the control box side. See Figure 5. 3. Connect the Red wires to Terminals 3 and 4 of the control box. See Figure 3 or Figure 3a. When connecting two connectors together on a single pole, place connectors back-to-back. See Figure 4. 4. Plug the power cord from the receiver into the 110VA plug on the side of the control box. See Figure 5. Figure 4. Place connectors back-to-back when installing 5. Attach the receiver to the control box cover or to the wall using the velcro strips attached. See Figure 6. Red Wires Connection From Receiver 110 VAC 3 4 Figure 3. Installation System Check Slide the 3-position button on the remote receiver to the position. The fireplace will go through the start cycle and the hot surface igniter will glow after the pre purge time and ignite the pilot. NOTE: If the remote does not communicate with the reciever, go to the section: Learning Transmitter to Receiver. After the pilot flame is lit, the main gas valve should open and the main gas flame should ignite. Slide the button to. The main gas flame and pilot flame should both extinguish. The power vent will turn off after 3 minutes post purge. Slide the button to REMOTE, then press the button on the transmitter to change the system to on. Learning Remote to Receiver This transmitter has one of 65,536 unique security codes. It may be necessary to program the remote receiver to learn the security code of the transmitter upon initial use, if batteries are replaced, or if using a replacement transmitter. NOTE: This receiver can hold up to 3 transmitter codes. This is for the times when a second hand held transmitter or a wall transmitter is required. Make sure the receiver s slide switch is in the REMOTE position. Press and release the LEARN button on the receiver. When you hear the Beep, press and hold the or button for about 2 seconds on the transmitter. You will then hear a series of rapid beeps that indicate that your new transmitter has been accepted by the receiver. If you press the LEARN button on the receiver and you hear no beeps, the receiver is unable to retain any more transmitter codes (make sure the transmitter battery is properly installed and fully charged). To delete all of the transmitter codes on your receiver, press and hold the LEARN button for 10 seconds. Then you will hear a series of three long beeps, indicating that the receiver s memory has been cleared. Remote Wall Clip The remote can be mounted on a wall using the remote wall clip included. Maintenance Battery Life Life expectancy of the alkaline batteries in the transmitter should be at least 12 months. Check and replace all batteries: Annually. When operating range becomes reduced. When transmissions are not received by the remote receiver. If the hand held transmitter batteries measure less than 5.0 volts. WARNING Battery operated device. Read the battery instructions before installing them into the system. Do not expose any battery, or its holder, or a device in which batteries are installed, to a working temperature greater. than 54 C / 129 F. Avoid battery overheating even if the working temperature of the device to which the batteries are connected is reported to be greater than 54 C / 129 F. In case of overheating the bad cases, develop hydrogen gas and explode. Troubleshooting If you encounter problems with your fireplace system, the problem may be with the fireplace itself or it could be with the remote control. Review the fireplace manual to make sure all connections are properly made. Then check the operation of this remote in the following manner: 1. Be sure the transmitter's batteries are properly installed and that the battery output is 5.0 V or more. 2. Ensure the receiver is connected to a 110-120 VAC power source. 3. Check to make sure the transmitter is communicating with the receiver If the receiver beeps when the MODE button is depressed on the transmitter they are communicating. If the receiver does not beep when the MODE/SET button is depressed on the transmitter, you will need to teach the receiver the code of the transmitter. This is done by pressing and releasing the LEARN button on the receiver and depressing the MODE/SET button on the transmitter. A change in the beeping pattern at the receiver indicates the transmitter's code has been programmed into the receiver. 4. Make sure the transmitter is within 15 to 20 feet of the receiver. 5. Positioning of the receiver is important. If the receiver is enclosed in a metal surround the operation of the receiver may be affected as noted below. Reposition the receiver to improve operating range. It is suggested that a heat shield be installed to protect the receiver from extreme heat. If the receiver is enclosed in a metal surround this can: Cause the RF signal to get lost and interrupt communication with the receiver. Cause the working distance to be shorter than normal. Note: A receiver located in an area where ambient temperature inside the case exceeds 130 F will trigger the THERMO-SAFETY feature requiring repositioning of the receiver to stop the warning beeps and reset the receiver's operation. FCC REQUIREMENTS NOTE: THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT RESPSIBLE FOR ANY RADIO OR TV INTERFERENCE CAUSED BY UNAUTHORIZED MODIFICATIS TO THE EQUIPMENT. SUCH MODIFICATIS COULD VOID THE USER S AUTHORITY TO OPERATE THE EQUIPMENT. Page 7
